Asunto: »[SV] SokkerViewer

2009-03-27 19:01:16
1) If it destroyed your computer, how do you know it was sokkerviewer.exe?

2) There is no file called sokkerviewer.exe

3) A trojan doesn't destroy your computer. A trojan gives another person a back door into your computer. So if it was a trojan and 'destroyed' your computer, you wouldn't know.

4) They have already stated on the Sokker Viewer site that the file has been falsely detected as a trojan, and have repackaged it so that it won't give this false alarm

So stop lying and blaming people for your own inadequacy at computer security.

SV is a nice program with some good features, and it annoys me to have someone libelling them.

I will also add that till today my anti virus software (AVG) don't detect SokkerViewer.exe as a trojan !!!
So I really don't understand why it was marked so :| But to be sure I deleted it from project.
2009-03-27 23:33:43
one more thing. I downloaded some old version (0.11.1) and check SokkerViewer.exe file from this directory on avast online page and there is information clear

I also find:

http://www.incodesolutions.com/threats2/System32Rootsokkerviewerexe.php which is very strange for me because in my opinion almost all application can delete, create or update files :P

http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X2523808351204691488-0/SOKKERVIEWER2EEXE.html ???

SokkerViewer is very popular and installed on a lot of machines. on many of them is software to reporting tools which connects from machine to internet and download some data. it could be that some users report is as a problem and it was added to some server with potential worms/viruses.

I agree with you that it is a false alarm, that is recorded in lists of possible threats.

actually i know sokkerviewer had i virus in it somewhere because when i downloaded avast said that
system32/something has been infected.
and i know it was i trojan because a man who works with computers told me so,and he had a hard time
fixing the problem.
and when he finally managed to turn the computer on all actions that need the ctrl key didn't work (copy, paste and stuff like that),my computer took forever to start and then i had to reinstall windows, and delete the C hard disk.

How did sokkerviewer = system32\*?

You are not making much sense regarding the program, and I think it is because of a lack of knowledge in computers.

The events probably went like this:

1) You download Avast
2) Avast tells you there is a problem with sokkerviewer.exe (the fact that there is a false alarm has been acknowledged by the SV people, and the program has been repacked)
3) Avast tells you that another file has been identified as a trojan
4) You panick and like >99% of people out there, call a 'computer technician' to repair the trojan
5) He tells you that it's too difficult, so you have to reinstall windows etc
6) You come on here and insist that it's SV's fault

Here is what you do:

1) Use Avast, it's a decent program, and scan often
2) Pay attention to what pops up when the scan runs (avast is annoying like that), because it tells you where the problem is
3) Realise that when a 'man who works with computers' tells you he has a hard time fixing the problem, it's because he doesn't know what the problem is exactly, especially if he tells you to format your hard drive and reinstall your OS
4) ...
5) Profit?

i have SV for almost 3 years
tried everything else but they are just not as good as SV

never had a problem with it

1) i didn't download avast, the programmer installed the original version
2) i actually watched him fix the problem,so i know that he had some trouble
3) the effects of the virus were clear (the ctrl thing and actually getting the computer to work)
4) i didn't pay the guy
5) i know that he is good at his job because he lives in america now,and works as a programmer.

The most strange thing is that only you have such big problems. I'm wondering why? On more then 1k machines SV was installed. As I know it is installed on 'company' desktops ;-) where restrictions are very high and nobody complains.

As I mentioned last time I sent this file to Avast online scanner and there were no trojans in it according to this service.

We don't want to scarry people that's why we decided to remove SokkerViewer.exe from our project. It can be only downloaded as external tool to launch our application.

BTW. I'm still wondering why only on avast (and as I've heard kaspersky, but I cannot confirm) this trojan appeard. As I know companies which are working on detecting viruses/trojans exchange signature of dangerous applications...

I have no problems whatsoever with SV. I think you'll find that it is an unfortunate mix of events that have led you to believe that SV is malware. If it was so, I think you'd find WAY more people complaining in here...
2009-03-31 08:46:17
I'd say that the file got infected on your computer and was not the cause of the infection.
2009-03-31 11:21:56
How did sokkerviewer = system32\*?

Fully agree... How can you say that the cause of your infection is SV executable? ;) I think your computer infected in some other way. Don't blame Sokker Viewer please ;)

I have my own company, using Sv on my company pc. I wouldnt do so if they were any probs wit it.

Never had any issues with SV, also have newest version of avast and even that never found a trojan or virus in the exe.
2009-03-31 13:27:44
there are no trojans or viruses in the latest version but in there is a trojan the previous version.
2009-03-31 13:30:41
I have been using avast and Sv for years and never had a virus or trojan. You are telling things which are clearly untrue.
2009-03-31 13:36:02
i'm not lying,i'm just sharing my experience, you think whatever the hell you want to think,i'm telling you my computer got infected the moment i downloaded sv.i use sv now,and i have no problems, but i had some a couple of months ago.
