This conversation points out a critical point to improve. This is an important reason why the game is struggling and will continue to struggle to increase its value. The absence of tactical variety is a monumental mistake.

My 3 5 2 strategy is essentially 7 1 2 when 3 defenders come forward combined with 4 midfielders spread across.
When the ball is in the middle of the field, I will create pressure and lock with 5 midfielders.
I feel that having 3 defenders rush forward will make it easier to win the ball.
I'm training young people so the mark is only 5x.
I will test and come back when the mark has reached 60~70.

There is no "every" something that can win against any tactic lol.

I have used 5-2-3 (or more often 3 defs, 2 wingbacks, 2 mids, 3 atts) with some success in arcades (example example2 example3), but in the end it did bite me in the ass in CC games playing against 5-3-2 :D
Mostly because games were more open and fun to watch that way. Though I dont think you can play that way with worse wingbacks.

My team plays around 50 note indeed, nothing brilliant, but with an 5-2-3 or call it a 3-4-3 depends how you would see it was pretty crushing ones against 60 + teams. 5-3-2 Definitely works more than fine. Again 4-2-4 i was using against stronger opponents as well and it just worked fine motly against a 3- line DEF tactics and 4-line DEF tactics. I am here talking beating teams playing 10 notes higher than my team, and my GK definitely raised my note avg.

Feel free to show me the examples when your 3 ATT striker tactic "ruled the 5-3-2" against a similar strength opponent :-)

Ruled out against stronger opponent even.

You don't understand what I mean

playing for 50, 60 is not the level that we are talking about - we are talking about top level games at NT and club level, with teams playing for 70, 75, 80 and the tactics needed for that level

I already said that for example at u21 level [where teams play for 50-60] other tactics work better / best / work at all

for example 442 with winger, 442 with 2 dm 2 cm or 433 or even 6 def tactics work well at u21 level, depending on team strengths and opponent

but for top [70+] level you need completely different tactics because the players work in a completely different way

Let me reach that level first :D
2023-09-18 19:15:21
You will get there with time :-)

I just meant that your experiences till now are not valid to what we are talking about right now. It's like a u21 NT coach [playing for 55] talking with senior NT coach [playing for 75] about tactics - they exist in different tactical realities :)

Hopefully one day :D If that day comes, in sokker Time has a different meaning, so probably in 10 or 20 years maybe.

75+ Obviously, players behave differently as they're more complete, i am not arguing there at all. Let's see, i'd like to test it out one day with different tactics and player skill sets.

borkos and in your opinion, this tendency to use a single tactic, is this good or bad for the game?

It's bad, but we have to do with it for a long time coming since the ME is very far from being updated, adjusted or even looked at.
And while that's said...as Borkos pointed out...75+ teams with 5-3-2 tactic are the hardest to beat, especially with a different tactic, simply because the ME makes it harder for strikers to score, than for defs and dev mids to defend.
And the more defs / devmids you have, the more you are probably to at least not lose.
Luck and random play their part + the lesser team handicap might kick in, but chancewise you have more luck with a 5-3-2 on high level matches.

Agree on this. One thing that is missing sokker but they will have to touch the ME, then they wont do it at least in the next 5 yrs: Passing behind the defender's line.

One of the problem soccer has is that trying to pass a line of 5 or even 6 defenders is very hard, so they usually put the line on the middle of the field. That is more rugby than futbol, why is it hard? because passing go to the player.

Glad that we finally found a topic that we agree on ;)

@umish
of course the tendency to use only one tactic is bad, but nothing will be done with this in nearest years, maybe ever... they can't even finish easy things, all changes are extremely slow right now, they obviously don't have the budget anymore to improve this game and changing the match engine would be very time and money consuming
2023-09-18 22:20:46
I agree, that's the basics of this game... kill the passing lines to strikers, cover the winger and your opponent has problems... and it's easy to do especially if you have a stronger team and can use a very high def line

easy way to tackle it with match engine: introduce long through balls in the air, over the defenders... that would be a game changer if done properly
