Asunto: NEWS Sokker- big changes are coming!

2023-12-11 16:41:05
I see what you mean. Yes, anything is more profitable. But i see what borkos is saying, its a passive income for them (with an end date).

I already have a job that pays definitely better than 1k a month :-).
I am also a partner in an Canadian fintech start-up.
Also investing in stocks.
Stopped trading gold recently.
I just wanted new ideas, when you had thousands :-P.

But that's off topic.

1. This point was about alleged 40k loss.
2. Afaik the servers are used for sokker only. As they barely can handle the generating of the matches. Maybe the test server has multiple purposes.

I am not trying to convince anybody to sell (like i even could :D). I said what i think would be best for us "users", not for Greg and Damian.

I dont want to buy it either, because if i would own it, i could not enjoy playing it.
2023-12-11 16:49:41
1. If the new development was paid by the new investors, then there would be no loss. But you say there was a loss of 40k.

the new minor owners paid the old owners by "paying the company" for the shares, and then the amount that they paid was paid by the company to the programmers etc. [so it was a company expenditure thus it is the reason for the yearly loss]

So my guess would be 1k monthly for each of them. You can call that decent, i don't.

it's not an equal amount of shares, 40% greg, 40% Damian, 12% Mekene, 8% Raul
so the old owners still make 80% monthly
2023-12-11 16:53:02
If they sell it for the investments they make plus the price for the servers and then a fixed price for the product in it's total, they don't need to wait for 10 years to get their money back.

read the whole thing...

greg and Damian own 80%

new minor owners own 20%

if the new owners invested over 50k, then the new buyer would have to pay at least around 250k euro total for the whole game so that the new owners get back at least their investment money back

and even if they make in total only 4k profit monthly, then it's around 50k yearly = even 250k is ONLY 5 years of games' profits... unless you need money for something pronto, then there would be no point in selling the game for 250k in total
2023-12-11 16:56:23
you keep forgetting the expenses.
2023-12-11 16:57:44
Well do you know or can realistically estimate their monthly/yearly basic expenses? We can +/- estimate the amount of money they receive from plus money because that data can be extracted from the game.
2023-12-11 17:04:06
I assume its about 1k month for the 3 servers (i know about).
Domain is insignificant expense.
Business tax in Poland is 19%, salary tax according to google is 22.8% on average in Poland.

Where can you get the number of plus users?
2023-12-11 17:08:42
I would be surprised it they paid 1k euro for the servers judging by how shitty they work every time there are matches generated... in the past maybe they paid with much more teams/users, but now know

Salary tax is insignificant I believe, none of them is hired by the company, they probably just pay themselves a dividend

Plus users numbers were extracted by Mikoos or Gaston, I don't remember the actual numbers, but back then it was surprisingly high

Anyway it is what it is - a regular passive income that doesn't really take time of the owners that receive 80% of the money

Obviously not worth investing in, they were planning to shut the game down, but Mekene&Raul decide to finance the game's code rewriting for 20% of money (I wonder whether they already regret it :P)

From my data:

1588 accounts with plus today (not counting 90 admins / mods / devs who have free plus), that's 109 more than when I started gathering info half a year ago
2023-12-11 17:11:45
Around 40k income yearly, assuming the worst option for them (25 euro yearly plus)

Now the question is how the incoming price change will affect the plus number, especially in the less rich countries

2023-12-11 17:26:39
~+100 in last 6 months, surprising

But generally constant number for years as it was 1622 in Jan. 2017 (don't remember if including devs/admins/etc.)
2023-12-11 17:27:53
1588*25=39700 / 12 = 3308 monthly
- 1000 expenses (which you are always forgetting): 2308 monthly
40% that makes 923.
Dividend tax 19%: 175.43
Net monthly: 748 Euro. Thats 8976 Euro yearly.

So we established that 748 Euro monthly is decent for you.
I am not saying that getting 748 Euro monthly doing nothing is not good. Just definitely not decent as you mentioned.

Again, when i said that they should sell it. I meant it would be best for us users.
2023-12-11 17:29:16
Its probably just us, old users :D.
@Mikoos: do you have any data on the age of the accounts that have plus? Although it could contain old users starting with a new account.
2023-12-11 17:35:19
I am not saying that getting 748 Euro monthly doing nothing is not good. Just definitely not decent as you mentioned.

it's a decent passive income for doing nothing
that's roughly the amount you gain net for owning & renting someone a medium [45m] apartment in Warsaw

and I believe their profit is higher because I don't believe they are paying 1k euro for these shitty servers that barely work with 7k users

Again, when i said that they should sell it. I meant it would be best for us users.

best in what way? you assume that there are some crazy people who would pay them for the game only to improve sokker on their own for "free"

where are those crazy people? :P

also about the "best for users" if it was sold... often it goes in a very wrong direction

a similar game called footballstrategy.org was sold at one point, then the servers stopped working, then it was sold again to an investor that had "big plans", was supposed to create an amazing engine, tactics bla bla bla...

the new engine they created was TERRIBLE, 50 times worse than what sokker had in 2010, the game was supposed to be back online in 2022, it never went online again... sometimes better turns out worse
2023-12-11 18:03:11
You can ask them about the server costs next time you will have a beer with them :-P.

Back about 13 years ago i had a few investors that wanted to buy sokker. Greg just said no, did not even ask the price.
At that time i would have invested my time to improve sokker. Not anymore.
But you can still see that there are and were people including myself (sokker.cz RIP, oSokker RIP), kryminator, Geston, Mikoos, those two Brazilian guys that created NTDB, the other tools SV, SO (sorry don't know who made them), i am sure there are more people.
All those people made sokker better for free.
So yes, there are crazy people who would do that.
Also the people would not do that for free anymore, it would become their own project with the goal to gain more users, therefore more income.
Instead of letting the game die.
