Something like man-marking would be a huge improvement, but also difficult to code for asymetric formations. Not really ideal if your left-back is marking the winger on the right side.
I would really love the option of either pressing or sitting back. It frustrates me hugely seeing my centre back leaving his line to meet the striker and leaving a huge gap behind. Either move up in a line or hold the line I told you to.

For me, throw in orders and corner orders would be a huge improvement! Now you always need to make sure that the closest player is good enough in PM and passing for covering the corners AND you need to make sure that one additional player is ready to anticipate the throw in of the player taking it.
Also, throw ins should not always be thrown towards the most offensive player in line, within reach. A throw in backwards or to the centre while your winger remains on the wing would already be a great addition. Also, those set pieces on your own field where that one defender overrules your entire off-side plan, like Borkos stated... Imo...the entire defline should pull back to make a line where the set piece is taken. And another frustrating thing is when offensive player receive a high ball, they always make a header towards another player, often 30 metres backwards. No! Try to control the ball and run on towards the goal! And don't run the ball straight into the goalies hands or over the side or backlines when the only thing you're doing is running with the ball. Players on high form, high TD and with high PM (brilliant or more), passing back 50 metres towards the strikers of the opponent... There's a lot of adjustments that are needed within the ME and tactics editor. We can only hope that one day...our prayers are no longer prayers of hope, but prayers of gratitude.
For now, just enduring is the only thing we can do. ME and tactics are the same for everyone I guess...

ME and tactics is why this game is superior to rivals... yet there is always complain about it.
I Hope price change can lead to marketing of game... by attracting more new users they could longterm make sokker financially stable again

In my opinion, first of all, a solution should be found for penalty shootouts, constantly missing penalties is so ridiculous.
The ME is the most interesting thing in the game and it has a lot of potential to improve. Its sad that they are not able/willing to work on it.
When i had more time i was thinking about doing my own football management game, similar to sokker, only two things stopped me:
1. To get the ME to the level it is right now is a lot of work, would not be able to handle that alone. But after it would be in this stage it would be easy to add new features to it.
2. I would not be able to play the game, because people would accuse me of cheating as the owner of the game :-).

I am still new to this game, so am wondering why is 5 at the back so good? I have not tried it, but am interested in why this works better.

I also don't understand why they didn't started work from changes in ME as it is a root of multiple serious sokker problems.
Because this ME tends to improve the game with 5 defenders, mainly on top tier level games...
Because they don't understand the ME, it's apparently coded very badly / in outdated manner and only greg understands (or understood) how it works.
It's also not the main reason why people left / why people don't join. So it's actually very logical that they didn't start with ME.
