Asunto: Tactics advice

A simple 4-3-3 is not that difficult, but if you want to play it against stronger opponent, MIDs and their positioning are very important and sometimes tricky.

It's more playable than with the old enging though imo.

it can be done even on very top level but key is not having "flat 4-3-3". I know we all tend to go symmetrical but have to avoid that at sokker 4-3-3.

The thing is, it is very hard to obtain an advantage of having a third att. Or put differently: the advantages of 3 atts vs 2 atts are too marginal compared to the gains from having an extra def or mid. Striker trainers are forced to do this, and some teams may choose it because of the characteristics of their players

i agree on that a extra def or extra mid give more in most cases.... but a match where you face a 5-4-1 or 5-3-2 team (and not one of the 3 mid´s as wing), i would say 4-3-3 is the key sometimes... my first match won against Team Niløse was with a 3-4-3.... my first match in highest league was against similar mark, i played 3-3-4 and won .... simply because he played so defensively that i could afford sending players in front... but i mostly do it now because i train strikers and have had 2 strikers and 4 wing attacks for a long time and trained...

also i sometimes face 3 def formations (is popular in denmark).... i think key is 4-2-4 against it....

nt matches this season with 4-3-3

1-0 over slovensko, they had higher mark

0-1 over france, they had much higher mark

0-3 over Hungary

and i maintained highest position denmark has had for a long time, with 4-3-3 all season....

Yes, but in those matches you used 2 atts + wing :P

The problem with 3 atts in sokker is that, even if your opponent uses 5 defenders, they are not going to re-arrange themselves completely so as to block your offensive players. Hence, in the margin, you can get some space by giving them a lot of forwards to mark, but for example if you use a wing, an att in the middle, and another att between your wing and your centre-forward, you already give them a lot of trouble and 1 or 2 of his defenders will be wasted players, as they will be marking a completely empty zone. Sending a third att there won't change the situation much ;)
What you do with number 11 is a nicre trick to exploit auto-marking :) Unfortunately, own players don't always take advantage of it :P

But on club level i play 1 central striker and 2 very wide strikers in each side.... the advantage can be, that when the opponent sideshift the defence (his defence is concentrated on left side as the ball is on left) the opposite side has more open man, also no matter where the ball is, straight forward there is a man for a long through pass, and if the wide striker ends up to far from the goal, there is always 2 man in the box for the pass...

I would like to address something and get feedback.

Is the tactical setup different now from before?

Before it used to be:
Wherever the ball is on the tactic editor, your guys will not actually be in the spots shown but rather in the spots 1 tick ahead or 1 tick behind depending on if you have the ball or your opponent has the ball. This of course was a bit tough to adjust tactics.

After:
I believe that I read SOMEWHERE maybe like 1-2 years ago that they changed this and the spot of the ball was exactly where your guys would be (or try to be). I believe this is the case but I'm not 100% sure.

Current situation: I recently played a game and it felt like my team was doing the whole "Before" thing where they wouldn't be positioned for where the ball was but rather they would move depending on who had possession just like before. Did they change it back? Did something different happen? Was it never changed? I'm very curious why they played like this. I noticed it to be especially true with throw ins where they were always a square back if my opponent had possession.

I never heard of that change in the first place. I'd say it is like you describe as the "before" scenario.

Can someone recommend a good tactic to play against a opponent who plays 442 with high defence?
2015-05-06 13:07:25
Well depends his players too... :) Are his strikers weaker then your defs?? Your striker stronger then his defs?? Who has strongest midfield... Also depends how his 4 midfielders are placed (is there wingers)....

Well, our average skills are almost identical, but he always creates more chances, and I cant beat him :(
This is our last match http://sokker.org/comment/matchID/27698022

either pull your defs and def mids a half field higher up, or move them way back (his atts are very low, if you go very low with your def, he will never get 1on1´s)

And.... if you have one with 12 or better pass, pull him as wide wing and high... he leaves miles of free space on the sides of his defence...
