Maybe he didn't live, but he have got absolutely right of course.
Seems to matter of opinion. I lived in that time and i say he is false (not absolutely).

I grew up in this time, I learn history, and I see h'e right.
So now you have 2 opinions from 2 people who lived in communism. And the opinions are very different.
Conclusion: You cant say, that he's absolutely right.

Moral values:
I remember how the children played then. They have done a lot of sports and so on... Now the children just drink alcohol, are loud in the night, they smoke more, they are very rude. That was not then. Parents have to work harder, they come exhausted from work, they arent in mood to spare time with their children. People try so much to be better as the others. They do not care about that they hurt beople when they egoistically try to "climb the ladder". People care more about their career than about their family.
When someone from the society has done something bad then he was punnished by the society which condemned him. Now noone cares. Just about his life. When bad things arent condemned they spread.
hm... yes, BZ has right in this point of view. Communism take care about society and family (of course not only in positive way, also in negative), but generally this is (that positive only :-) ) what was really good in communism.

Well it all depended on how adaptable you were. If you did nothing against the regime, you had nothing to be afraid of and life standart could be quite good considering circumstances. This is just explanation why there can be so different views on the life in communism
And I really dont like this lame excuses like it is influenced by communism or remainder of socialism manners. It is just unability to face the thruth. We had 20years of transformation to change. And the way we changed was managed by our governments. If anything has really big influence on the current condition of our state, it is politics of 90s. Theft of the century called big privatization. Laws which allowed mass larceny of state property. Politics and political parties connected to mafia and controling public administrative (this is still happenning) etc. This after 20years of practice become so normal that people tolerate it. And this is very big warning.

Well so why is in every postcommunist country similiar development and delusion? (even Eastern Germany which was "incorporated" to German political and economical system) Why is development in countries which havent experienced communism different?

we had only 20years to set up democracy a its protection and other countries had uninterrupted development (for about 60years). I would say we are just not used to it. We are resigned to raise a voice against larceny of state property and injustice. Whatever the reasons of our apathy are.
This is why politicians in czech can dare to do anything, even what they absolutely could not in Germany, UK and other developed countries. And this is the reason why our development is so slow.

No, Red, things like:
In capitalism you shall be good, honest and nice as you shall be good, honest and nice in any competitive game.
are theory, not practice! What we see everyday is that being aggresive, imperialist and predator to other people can be a winning strategy too (if not the winning strategy). It's not ture that capitalism (or competition) "forces" you to be nice.
All in all, I find many things that are attributed to communism or capitalism to be independent of capitalism or communism, it's just humans being humans everywhere. I think the bulk of the debate is just the residual of USSR/USA cross-propaganda, as they accused each other of things you find everywhere (like corruption, lack of civil rights, autoritarian governments, poverty - if you look at the whole world, you find examples of everything under all kind of economic and institutional environments).

I agree.
In fact is impossible to look to our recent history without beeing emotively and ideolgically involved.
Anyone can see how much we're still talking about communism even if no one of us seem to want it.
Why?
Beacuse we're still for or against something, we're ideologically biased..
We decided long ago what to stand for and now we're waving our flag, aganst those who think diffently.
Someone arrive to think that anyone think something different from he.. is communist or fascist!
So we read strange reaction to normal concepts ("communism is not the hell" --> "you're communist" or the same for capitalism, democracy etc..)
This is the motivation beacuse of I try always not to use those word that lead people to react automatically before thinking..
If we'll start to not use more thise words we have some chances to find some neutral comparison ground..

El Pupe my reaction was not directed at you or you alone, it was just general the truth about these so called different types of ecnomical systems...count your blessings, everybody talking otherwise has been inddifferent to reality , indoctrinated by hatred and socialism...
who or the big opponents of capitalism?
Generally; communists and socialist; out of anger because they suck and fail and capitalism draws all talented people out of them.
Then you have islam countries; also not free...they are selfcalled socialist...they are against everything non-muslim...and very anti america and anti-west...even if everything they own is from dealing with te west....even when it is clear that the west could overrun them in minutes, many tims before, even when the west chose to make honest deals and pay billions...
Then we have the people in the west itself who are opposing capitalism and favoring socialism...they are anarchist, junks, hippies, failures, dropouts, or indoctrnated kids from those people.
It goes up to lawyers and smart people who take advantage of these false sentiments...the leftwing elite...
maybe it is two bad groups; the top leading capitalists and the top leading sociaists....but we speak here of how to orderly run a country and its economy....thaa it is 100- 0 for capitalism...
Anyone who cannot understand, or does not come with reasoning otherwise, should not write here...trying to outsmart me...it's pathetic realy.

the present economic system for sure, and the future ones, I guess.
Capitalism i dead, we do not live in..
unless you say this is capitalism or liberism , but it stil does not..
But you're thinking as a 70'/80' man that watch tha tv of his side of the world..
you still think about US and them, right and wrong, good and bad.
I would have think you were a little boy, but i read that 69, so I think that there's a chance you're too old to understand where the wordl is gone in the last 20 /30 years!
