Even a draw is dangerous, although Japan would have to win by 4 against Colombia to qualify in that case.
I still think they're doing well, and they would to disappoint big time to get eliminated before 1/8s.

There is just something that's missing in Ivory's play,a lack of tactical discipline or smth...They perform very well and I was hoping they could pull up a draw against Colombia,they were the better side after all.

I remember 2006 wc group stage when they played against Argentina and had 21 shot at the goal(if I recon correctly) but they lost 2-1 even Argentina was overplayed big time.

Hope to see them in the next round.

If it happens too often, maybe there is a problem with the definition of "overplayed" :P

But if you think about it, both times they were 2-0 down, then charged and scored once, and failed to draw. I couldn't watch the match against Colombia, but in 2006 they played defensively first, yet couldn't manage to stop us from scoring twice. Then we tried to hold the score and they started to charge, and they were much more effective at that, giving us reasons to fear. It was too late, though, so they ended one goal short of the draw.

In our account of African teams we are forgetting Algeria, though. They also played a solid match, despite ending up with too little a reward.

PS: funny enough, both times it happened against the same coach :P

the difference is Algeria was very defensive, while most african teams are (foolishly) offensive.

So the "death group" was more death group than it seemed: it was already tight assuming Costa Rica away, but watching their actual performance, it was really 4 teams for 2 spots. Still plenty of time to go, but if they manage to keep the score... first team in 1/8 from the group of death.
Definitely, Costa Rica already is the positive surprise of this WC to me.

costa rica again played so good today and really deserve the penalty and some free kicks, wonder what the referee saw to not given them.

btw, will england fans be mature enough about luis suarez or they will be doing what the italian did to ahn jung hwan back then in 2002, to fire/ to sell him :P

Costa Rica has a great chance now to get from 1/8 to 1/4 as their opponent will be from an unimpressive Group C :)

Suarez is 1000 times more important and valuable than Ahn Jung Hwan was...

anyway, very bad game of Italy, terrible performance of Chiellini...possibly his worst game that I've ever seen...

yeah, suarez is more skilled than jung hwan, but still it's a shame doing that.
well, at least england fans maybe will be doing what they did to ronaldo and becks in that case ;)
