Asunto: Brasil 2014

If both Mexico and Costa Rica win, Costa Rica will be able to make it to the semifinals IMHO. They know each other very well.
Polish and Dutch names are easy to read, at least to me. And I've been to both countries.

African are hard, almost all of them.

Echiejile is a hard surname, nobody would guess that you pronounce it eki-le-le

You should listen Argentinian journalists saying Kuyt, Rijkard, or even De Boer... Cruyff as well, but he was famous enough to at least get an approximate version :P

Maskerano (Italian pronounciation) is correct, though, although many Argentinians will call him "Mas-czerano" (Spanish pronounciation) anyway (if my understanding of Polish cz sound is correct). In Spain he's often "Masherano", as if it was a German name :P
I wouldn't discard himself saying it in Spanish, though: my own surname is Italian, but 80% of the time Argentinians follow Spanish rules, even among my family...

They should make a match "Rodríguez vs rest of the world". Actualy, there was a Spanish-Argentinian rock band called "Los Rodríguez" :P

OK, enough linguistics, now football: in terms of thrill, I expect México-Nederlands to be like Brasil-Chile, and Costa Rica-Greece to be like Colombia-Uruguay. It was a fun match day yesterday, let's hope it continues this way :)

I will be wathing CR-Greece with 'one eye'. Greece will do what they are best at - defend and I don't think that CR has enough quality to break the wall of defence...

Nederland-Mexico should be quality though, but...I think it will be similar to Nederland-Chile. Mexico will try to attack, Mexico will fail, Nederland will make three good situations from counters after '45 and score 2 goals :p

Well, I actually never heard a non-Dutch native speaker pronouncing Cruijff correctly. The ui-vowel is always pronounced 'oi'.

But yeah, let's talk about football. I like the way the South American teams play football. Great games yesterday.

South America was good til quarterfinals last WC too, but in the end it was and this time aswell it will be an all-european final :)

2014-06-29 18:13:59
México started more conservative, but now the match is following the script you expected...
2014-06-29 18:17:52
Well, 4 of the 5 teams have to kill each other before semis, so...
An all'South American final will be hard, in any case: it would require a 100% success rate in any match against non-South Americans.

Yeh, but without De Jong the defence is a bit shaky

I don't know the reasons why LvG chose these players today, but the defenders don't look as reliable as before

"10 out the last 12 WC goals by #MEX have come in the second half. Eight out of the last nine for #NED have come in second half."

2nd half should be a treat:)
2014-06-29 18:25:55
So, I'm basically wasting my time right now :P
2014-06-29 18:32:51
yup:P
2014-06-29 18:44:42
why arena is half empty?
2014-06-29 18:48:43
Probably many Spanish supporters had tickets for this game and went home without selling...
