Same problem is daily shooting in US among civilians and also in schools.

WHAT THE HELL does this have to do with the terror attack in Paris?

Everybody there has a gun

Everybody??? Because it's their right to own one doesn't mean most have a gun. Read more about it before you post completely nonsense biased claims.

Stop looking at the news as if you look out the window of your home!! The news is a very twisted view of reality.

But what is hate speech? Were those cartoons hate speech? Was Oriana Fallaci's attack on Islam after 9/11 hate speech? Will we come up with a list of specific books/texts instead? And who will make it?

I prefer the right to freely express our views on hate speech, rather than delegating the decision of what is hate speech on someone else. Hate speech won't disappear, it will just be replaced by euphemism and spread hidden from general discussion, "off the record". I prefer all speech to be displayed out in the open, so we can all discuss it and even attack it as much as each of us thinks necessary. I believe that is a more effective way to counteract hate speech.

I think the only chance we have is the strenght of our principles.

I think this is key. Either we believe in our principles, or we don't. If we don't, why should we care about what happens with them? If we do, how could we give them up in the name of defending them?
We should not relax our laws to accommodate "others' sensibilities", and neither should we make exceptions to "fight the evil enemy". We'll have fundamentalists and xenophobes pulling one arm each, but we should heed none and stay in our place.

Depends on society. In Argentina or in the Czech Republic it would be of course pointless to implement it. In western Europe propagation of nacism and sharia should be hate speech to majority, propagation of communism or anti-multiculturalism would be not.

I am not sure. Hate speech should be forbidden.

I don't agree it should be forbidden, but I think hate speechers should be criticized the same as those who attack our freedoms. Both are a threat to us normal people (no matter what our background is).

I dont get why religious people can get offended about their faith, it is personal thing of any of them and next thing there is human-invented thing such a god and religion...

If you really believe in something and this is constantly attacked by others, you will start to fight back. And religion is apparently something that goes even deeper, it caused countless wars for as long as humans are able to kill eachother.

But when it comes to terror attacks, I don't think it's only about religion, it's more complicated. There is a religion factor, but also a social factor, a demographic factor, a racial factor, etc, and unfortunately also an idiot factor. Often these kind of killers like those in Paris aren't well educated people, don't come from rich families, not living in good neighborhoods, don't have lots of career opportunities, etc, and not to forget; hated by others (racists) only because of who they are. They are at the bottom of society, and apparently easily indoctrinated to kill others.

And for the terror attack in Paris, the 2 terrorists robbed a gas-station after the attack, they aren't people believing in some god, those 2 are simply criminal terrorists shouting Allahu Akbar.

I strongly disagree. No speech should be forbidden.
History shows us that every limitation of speech was an mortal error.

as always, you got the point!
We should be aware of the dangers that comes, but keep on our way!
We should remember also that into our society there's a big part of us that doesn't believe or doesn't know the fundamentals of our society (democracy, freedom, equality, respect etc).
We saw it even in this discussion (people asking to forbid someone speech!!!)
This is the BIGGER DANGER.

once in a million times we agree on something?!?!?
I should sign this date into my calendar.. :O

I disagree. When somebody calls for your genocide the arguments doesnt count, most of time it just make it worse. Plus our countries are here because the people of same culture united together and struggled for independence, we are not free for being nice to everybody.

2015-01-09 16:28:18

Because you dont know much about that religion :-). It is big sin making fun of alah or islam.... so they just punish it.
I dont like that religion, I dont like any.

Free speech doesn't imply being nice :) Actually, my point was that I support free hate speech precisely to be ruthless against hate speech ;)

In western Europe propagation of nacism and sharia should be hate speech to majority

I want nazism and sharia propaganda to happen in broad daylight without censorship, so we get the chance to criticize it, ridicule it, etc. I don't want my kids to learn about this "forbidden book" from manipulators, on my back. I want them to see it on TV and newspapers, where other people will react to it -and I'll get the chance to be aware of the messages they're getting and present my own views to them.

It's amazing how much fear and weakness a person must feel to be afraid of a cartoon, to believe that a drawing on a piece of paper has any kind of power over their lives... It's really hard to understand that a simple sketch by a human being can be harmful to a supposedly almighty god :S
