Well, I understand why you had to close the political topics, it was the easiest solution. However, it is important to emphasise that all topics can be discussed in a civilized way and that it was the failure of discussants.

And if this topic gets closed, it will be again a failure of discussants. Unfortunately I am not sure if those who caused the shutdown of News Around The World thread got strong enough feedback and accepted that it was their fault.

Honestly, I can refer to a much discussed expression used recently: "People are stupid". I don't expect to have threads with only civilized discussion (heck, I would be obsolete). But things as politics e.g. cause to much flaming and nervosity. It is best to ban this from a games forum.

And I agree totally that the lifetime of this topic depends on the people discussing in it and their behavior, but that goes for every topic ;-)

But things as politics e.g. cause to much flaming and nervosity.

And the same goes for almost every website were politics and religion is discussed by people all around the world :/ I don't think 'stupid' is the problem, I assume on most national forums it's a lot less flaming and nervous, I think 'too different' is the problem.

EDIT: and 'language', as it is difficult and sometimes impossible to say exactly the same in a different language on a forum, and/or others don't understand it correctly.

I agree.

Oh another comment, pretty cheap last minute holidays to Greece because a lot of people cancelled their trip.

I'm still searching for a cheap last minute holiday, but it won't be Greece for some obvious reasons; things that could happen and won't make it a more fun holiday :/

Btw, also cheap is all-inclusive to Turkey, but also out of the question.

Can you explain to me the obvious reasons please? Besides the lack of cash in banks is only for greek people and cards, tourists have no problem at all. Maybe some more waiting time in the ATM's:)

Besides whatever is going to happen will hapen in the near future, possibly before you even come here for holidays:)
I don't work in this sector, I just don't want people to "panic" for no reason...

I can only imagine most Greeks would like to see as much tourism as possible. It is a major source of income for the country and for everybody there, it would be better to receive a lot of visitors.

I also don't see a reason to stay away, but am not planning any holidays this season due to the construction of our house.

WOW! How do you still have internet in Greece?

Lack of euro could be a problem for tourists too. If hotels and restaurants can't get enough money from the bank, they could have difficulties with paying their suppliers, so there could be problems with having a good selection of food, other products and services.
