That series is almost as overrated as any Marvel comic-based film. In my opinon of course.

Let the hate flow:

Seen three movies these past two days.

The Interview
- I'm not that into movies with Rogen and Franco, but this was actually quite okay. Their chemistry is great and there were some rather funny moments in the film. And even though most news is about the movies take on North Korea, the movie actually pokes fun at America as well.

Pride
- Based on the real story about a group of gay activists who helps out the miners during the long strike in 1984. Really good movie with a few familiar actors such as Imelda Staunton, Bill Nighy, Dominic West and Paddy Considine. Good acting, good story and quite a few laughs. I liked that they didn't rely on stereotypes, neither gay nor straight. The characters were different and some changed during the film.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
- I love Studio Ghibli and the movies they make, especially the ones by Miyazaki, who apparently had a hand in this movie. The person responsible for this movie was however Isao Takahata. I haven't seen many of his movies, but he did make one of the best animated movies I've seen - The Grave of the Fireflies. Seriously, if you haven't seen that one, you should. It's a movie for adults and one of the most heart wrenching movies I've seen.
"Princess Kaguya" is a bit more light hearted and even kids can see it. The story is about a girl who is found in a stalk of bamboo (she's not even as big as a hand) by a man who takes her home and together with his wife they take care of her. She quickly turns into a baby and after that grows, almost like a normal human, but not quite.
The man believes she is a gift from heaven and is destined to become a princess, which is helped by gold and fine fabrics he finds in other bamboo stalks.
But will the girl really be happy as a princess?

I'm not going to explain the entire story and you really should see it for yourselves.
It's a really good story which Takahata has allowed to grow in it's own pace. The movie is a bit over 2 hours long but atleast it doesn't feel rushed.

The best thing about the movie however (though most things is great) is the animation.
Oh my God! It's absolutely stunning and some scenes really took my breath away. There's a dream sequence in it that is just jaw dropping.
The animation is different from most movies. It's more like watercolor. Like old japanese paintings come to life.
The movie is worth seeing just for the animation alone.

Just finished watching Time Lapse. Is an okay movie with a nice ending ;)

went to see The Imitation Game last Wednesday (main actor: Cumberbatch).
it's a very decent movie, where Cumberbatch is acting at a high level. I must also admit Keira Knightly is doing much better in these 'drama' movies than in her 'comedy' movies. The story is interesting, some weaker plot parts though, but it keeps you hooked.

the story seems to be like that movie Enigma 2001
2015-01-17 19:55:15
I havent seen that one, but the "the imitation game" switches between 1951 and the time when they were trying to break enigma. And even though the breaking of enigma is the main story, the sidestories (commie spy, Türing being gay, ...) are really nice :)
