hinter Haus This has to be: außer Hause
With: Hinter haus you said behind the house

Can someone confirm if I am correct? Mine German writing is not the best

Kriegsgefangenchaft

This means he was prisoner of war, not that he did came away from the front.

So mine translation is:

When I came home in 1946 from the Russian prisoncamp, everything went on as if nothing had happened.
