do ages pop at the same time as first squad players, ie end of season? If so I guess it dosen't matter at which point in the season you pull them.

Yeah, youths age the same day first teamers do, at the end of the season. So if you have a player who is in your youth squad over two end of season ups before he's ready, his final age will be original +2. Original varies from 16-18.

Yeah but am probably going to go bankrupt unless I sell someone first, my next youth isnt for 8 weeks, and even then I am sure he will only be an excellent.

No worries. I think the devs made it that way so people couldn't stockpile juniors who were ready to be promoted and wait until the start of the next season, so they'd all be young week one pulls! The age bump is a deterrent to stop it being worthwhile.
