Personally I feel it should only be assists/goals for your own team

I agree, not sure if its the case though.

Surely that would take a looooooooooong time?

it's not the rules - but Capria has got 104 assists with me so it would be the same

Counting up your own assists and goals with players would be a tad on the awkward side though. Especially for players that have been in your side a long time.
