A couple of days ago i was looking for a trainee to buy that i could train next season. I scouted the market and found a player that had not long been listed, and there were no other prospects currently listed i was interested in, so i placed a bid that is roughly 50%-75% of his sale value.
I then subsequently received an SK mail asking why i placed such a "high" bid on his player, so i asked him why this was a problem. This was his reply:
that's what I usually do when trying to do dirty staff to someone or try to get a player with a bargain I place a bid on 2/3 of what he's worth full 2 days before the transfer expires - with a high early bid less people get to be constanly reviewing the player because he isn't in their office and they forget about him - same way is with a placed bid. Ofcourse this isn't a rule but sometimes he does go for lower money(like 20% of cases), because of the shrinked interest. So please don't apply this transfer trick to me again if you please.
Is he off his rocker? Surely it is my right if i wish to tie up my money in a player, whether i believe it helps generate me a bargain or not?

Indeed. It is a free (to the extent of not being stupid) market, up to everyone what they do with their swag bags of money.

the hypocrite says he does it himself - so tough
Mail to DJ
He is right that a bid like that will ward off all other players looking for that absolute January sale bargain of the decade player
But it's a bit of a cheap shot to think it works to any great degree, & that you have magically uncovered his wondrous way of buying players cheap lol
It's a free market.....but a funny mail to receive for sure

lol. You have been rumbled DJ! It is quite clear that he is mental - make a note of his team so we can buy all his players like this.
I did actually, after i sent him a "reasonably" polite mail back saying something along the lines of it's up to me if i wish to place a large opening bid.
As it turns out, the player in question sold tonight for 3 times the bid i initially placed (winning bidder was not me).
What a muppet.

I was trying to find a transfers thread and found this which tenuously links in to the point i'd like to make.
Padstow listed 3 nice young players recently. I placed early bids of £50k, £10k, £10k respectively. I'm not on Sokker 24/7 like i used to, and when if you were serious about a player, absolutely vital to be online at auction end.
But i found it fascinating that they all went for 1 or 2 bid increments more than my opening bids.
It's a shame you can't see the player skills for at least a few days after transfer, but my main point for brining this up is i believe this "transfer trick" still works, and also, the market is pretty dead isn't it? With the low user base? If you can get an early bid in close to expected sale price, then be there at the end, you'll get the best bargains. Probably.

Side question, how do i remove the picture of me and my ex-wife on my old user? XD

The market is far from dead on quality players. It's dead on dross, but medium to high end players there is more demand than supply, plus extra money in the game so prices on the up.
