Heading into the first Friendly week of the season the US U21 boys are 1-1-0 and are tied with Turkey in the top two transfer slots..

In week one we beat Sverige 2-1 .. they are the third toughest team in the table.. & a competitive team,. so we where happy to open the season beating them!

In Week 2 we played the defending bronze medal winners in Turkey.. They even had a poll in their forum asking whether they would win, lose or tie.. and it was 17 votes for win, 0 for a loss, & 2 for a tie.. so they where awful confident!! But we came in prepared and scored first taking the lead for most of the game! Unfortunately our star GK went out for 26 days with an injury in the 62 minute.. a position we are pretty thin at.. & with our back up in Turkey was able to tie it up in the 81 st minute.. But we left with a point against clearly the toughest team in our table..

Luckily we have a week off, and then play the two weaker teams in the table giving Dillon our star GK time to recover before we play the second toughest team in Norge on 12-26.. So if we can keep up the strong play i think we will make the cut for the World Cup next season..

thats all for now..
Cheers

Very very good job in first and second match of USA U21. You deserve all congrulations. I repeat, very very good job.

I just noticed you played west and he got the equalizer last week :D

He was awesome.. it was just a friendly.. so i played pretty much all 20 y/o's or younger.. no sense risking injuries with the 21 y/o's.. We are going to be counting on boys like west in the finals next season.. keep up the stellar training!

Nice. I'll have to watch it later! You should have let me know he was playing though! I would have taken advantage of that extra training by playing him in an att position... Next time though!

Update number 2 :)

Despite more injuries.. our top two att'rs out for our last game.. our young boys beat Norway 2-0 to split the points 3-3 (even though i thought we should have won the first game.. with a two goal lead at the 60 min mark.. two late goals gave then the edge in that one)
This essentially puts the ball in our court to win a spot in the WC next season.. It will all come down to beating the Swedes, the one spoiler team in our group, in the last game of the season.. but hopefully the Swedish team will beat Norway in week 10 giving us a WC birth!

Not bad for a country of 65 players!!
Cheers

Yeah man why do you ask
2015-01-12 02:36:10
Gene is looking very promising!! hope you get a chance to do a week or two of stamina training before the WC...
We are going to need him in a major way!! I'll try and get him in more of the games now that we have an easier stretch ahead.. & he's just as good as anyone else on the team at this point anyhow! :/
2015-01-12 03:17:27
No way! Just as good? That's not good :( I promise I'll do at least 1 week by the end of this season. The other week it'll be either stamina again or pace... But thanks man he sure can use the extra training being that I play him in friendlies!
