Asunto: [U21] Tournament & friendly

2025-03-22 11:50:06
I don't want to be discouraging but our U21 squad is incredibly weak next season, we can't do anything even if we qualify for the World Cup. and we are weak in every position. DEF-MIDDLE-ATT-GK

Our qualifying group squad will play a match against DENMARK U21 today.

Although it is a friendly match, this match is very important because Netherlands is a team in the U21 category in our group.

Today I will try a different tactic for the first time. I hope it will be successful because I think this will be the best tactic for our new U21 squad. If we are in a difficult situation, our additional tactic will come into play.

I am hopeless for the future but our squad is not bad in terms of passing the qualifiers.

Enjoy watching everyone.

USA U21 - Danmark U21 0:3

Our new team suffered a big defeat in the first match of the season. We will have a hard time scoring goals this season. This is clearly visible.

France beat Romania 3-0 and Suomi 1-0 with their new team.

Our first match in our group is against France. I will try to get points.

I obviously don't have much context, but how bad could our strikers be if Hodge can't even make the roster as a #5 striker

Hodge unfortunately has no technique. Sorry.

I need the SK gods to reward me for buying Plus. I have not had any non-GK trainees in the past 2 years. I will gladly accept excellent YS players immediately, Also Islander open your YS. You can still win ML in 4 seasons with a youth academy!

I got a 16 yo gk junior who will come out of youth school in 5 weeks. He is level 1 now. Not sure if worth keeping.

Not a chance. Youth pulls are for other people - not me.

I've decided to remove previous posts at the suggestion of Tad, but let's just say if our attack squad is 'so bad', then Musta is making a big mistake not having Hodge and his pace not involved.

Tech is irrelevant if you can't reach the ball. You can't have both at any meaningful level by 21 and still have the incredible+ striking required to score.

I feel like all 16 year olds are worth keeping especially if he has high pace but that’s probably cause I pulled a 3.00 previously.

I have 3 top GKs right now. One projected to be magical at 17.9, one brilliant at 19.1, and an adequate 16 yo last week.

No outfield players though :/

Islander. Your team is too successful not to have a YS. I get you are trying for an ML title but more YS academies in the US the better

Also a magical youth coach and 20 trainees is less than the wages for your top 2 players

I’ve had a few rough pulls with poor skill distributions, and some talented players where the skills didn’t fall in the most useful areas. But I’ve also had 4 really solid pulls where both the talent and the skill distribution lined up great. What I’ve found most valuable overall is just having direct knowledge of a player’s talent early on.

Right now I’ve got 4 trainees, and I’m confident that 3 of them would sell for a profit—enough to justify the cost of the school over time. In my view, it only takes a few good juniors to make the youth school worthwhile. Buying a young trainee with known talent is usually very expensive, and when you go for unknowns, you risk wasting 2–3 months just trying to figure out their potential. With your own school, you control that process and can make more informed decisions.

unfortunately our best striker has the characteristics of
12-12-11

and if you watched yesterday's match, he couldn't score even with 5 shots against Denmark's bad goalkeepers.

This is a very bad situation. I don't think we can score against France.

I plan to fix the match 0-0.

However, Hodge is only 20 years old. If he is given technical and goal training, he will be in the team next season. With better development, he will be in the middle of this season.

yes, you can have all skills at relatively high level in u21, I think you might not know the level of u21 teams and good players at that level.

at this point in season there are many players that already have ATT sumskill 39 [14-13-12 / 13-13-13 etc.] while there are some better than that, even 15-13-13.

technique is never irrelevant, you won't achieve anything with an ATT who has only pace and striker.

and ATTs have to compete against defenders who often already have 13-14 pace and 15-17 def.

USA U21 - France U21 1:3

We couldn't stop the French forwards and lost the match.

It was a shame to start the group stages with a defeat.

I saw nothing like this when I coached Israel. Perhaps small country bias on my part.

My perspective is if someone has 3 12's or 3 13's they aren't winning tackles reliably, nor outrunning anyone to any loose rebounds. I never said tech was irrelevant above. I said I believe it's better to ideally focus on one or the other, unless you are a major country and has the luxury of supply we don't.
2025-03-30 14:34:21
also, (for those who think so) this was never about my guy. I never reached out to Musta at all, and never gave it a second thought until his comment about the group being poor. Hodge frankly isn't very talented and this is why his skills are where they are (3.68 talent, 32 skills). He didn't get a great start for striker, I just made him one anyway since I knew he'd never be a midfielder.
