Asunto: Yes We Can

No, it's absolutely not a disaster. Almost all European countries are using that system and it's working everywhere. Costs for medical services are much cheaper in Europe because hospitals, doctors, etc. don't try to make maximum profit of people. The richest European countries are all socialistic countries.

The ten countries with highest nominal GDP per capita:
1. Luxembourg
2. Norway
3. State of Qatar
4. Iceland (might have changed in the meantime)
5. Ireland
6. Switzerland
7. Denmark
8. Sweden
9. Finland
10. The Netherlands

All Scandinavian countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland) and Finland very socialistic. The Netherlands also are a socialistic country. About the other European countries in the list I'm not sure, but they're more socialistic than the United States

luuut, I was sarcastic :-)

You label something as "socialistic" here and everyone believes it must be bad. Too many people do not realize that there is a difference between Soviet-style socialism (which is bad) and modern European socialism that you describe. If Obama can bring some of this to the US I'll be very happy.

I don't agree that people are considering USA weaker with Obama. The problem is that McCain is always associated with Bush, and nobody wants a new Bush`s age.

this socialist thing had gotten WAY out of hand...what about the 700Billion to Wall Street? is the government having and equity stake in US banks Socialism??
2008-11-05 23:02:12
Thats kinda funny, when the election process started 2 years ago, McCain was considered the least Bush like Republican.

Bush never endorsed McCain until after he won the Republican primary. Because Bush did not want McCain.

Yes, i know... But that's the image that it's shown here and i bet that in many places. In fact, i`m sure that the majority doesn't even know about american elections... People know that there would be an election and one candidate was of Bush's party and the other one against. :p

Furthermore, everytime that something was said about your elections, it was always mentioned about a black and young candidate x the white and old candidate. I'm sure that outside USA, the possibility to have a black president who wasnt David Palmer or Morgan Freeman in his movies counted a lot. :p

I support Obama just because of his policies, and I watched his informecial on youtube, and I all I have to say is money well spent. He is a great man, great leader and no doubt a great President.

I realized that so that's why I replied to you;)

And in Europe we call 'Soviet-style socialism' communism. In my opinion communism principally isn't bad, but it isn't implementable in big societies. What we saw in the Soviet-Union wasn't communism, but a totalitarianistic state made possible by the very noble idea of communism at that time.

Right now I am so proud of America, the most pride I've ever felt being an American. This election will go down as one of the most significant elections in US history.

145 years ago Lincoln signed the Emmancipation Proclamation. It has been 44 years since the Civil Rights Act was past. Race is still a divisive issue in the US, but it is possible to overcome obstacles.

When will Europe get its first non-white PM? My guess is a long time.

i was referring more to the taxation references than universal healthcare.

I'll point out that a lot of rich ppl in some of those countries come over here for better healthcare though, btw.
2008-11-06 03:59:09
how many times has morgan freeman been president?

You forgot wayne palmer too, no?
2008-11-06 04:01:12
C'mon bronson, maybe Europe has not had a non-white PM yet, but it's way ahead of US in terms of women leaders.

I do agree that something very significant just happened.

But, race aside, I believe Obama can reverse the decline of the US that we are seeing in almost every aspect.

my favorite part of this is i have two people who i actually believe are intelligent in the white house.

I don't know if he can fix things, am kinda concerned with the dominance of democrats in power currently (and i say that as a lifelong democrat)...

To me the issues with financial won't be touched on by the president, it's more of a country feeling comfortable and a FED thing. Taxation won't be affecting this for 2 years, even if he does do what he promised. Personally i'd like the economy to stabilize a biiiit before that.

And the military thing, who knows what will happen. I would be surprised if he's not tested a bit once he's in power. Hope he grabs a very very strong secretary of defense. But I am definitely looking forward to not being the world bully with such a disturbing level of arrogance. Hope he can change that. He can CERTAINLY improve how he speaks, that's just not even similar to the current idiot in the whitehouse.
