Asunto: [WC2010]USA-England

Ask Ballack and the other German Player who got injured.......

Those friendlies were for the coaches to decide who to bring to the WC. Most NT teams at this point already have an identity, so why risk to injure first team players

Have the feeling that the US will be the surprise of this tournament, but the lack of experience in knock out games will play its part and you will end up loosing in quarter final or so.

I will be cheering for you agains England (for obvious reasons :P) in some bar in San Fran. Probably by that time I will be already wasted since Argentina plays before US.

Good luck!

What do you think about Argentina and the coaching of Maradona? Are you excited to see him run around Argentina nude?
2010-06-03 00:24:46
I think that he is a great motivating, his sole presence is motivating.

If you ever played soccer and you are argentinean, you have to be very made of ice if Maradona tells you something and you don't feel inspired by his words

That is on one side. On the other side, he has not probed at all he is a good manager nor tactician, but he has Bilardo by his side (coach of the '86) by his side.

Argentina was not playing well before Maradona became coach, and still playing bad after he got the steering wheel. In the last 2 or 3 games I have seen some progress, that gives me some hope, but the key is consolidating a team around Messi so he can do what he does best, and we are not there yet, hopefully the team will get strong during the WC.

Concerning Maradona as human being, we all know what kind of person he is.

Finally I have hope since in '86 we barely qualified, everyone was saying that Bilardo should quit, and after the World Cup half of the argentineans had to apologize to Bilardo. Spain, Holland, England, they had peaks of performance, but usually those teams tend to decrease their performance if they peaked way too before the WC. It always happens with the candidates.

I hope that it happens again in this WC

Cheers

Good to know. From an outsiders view he seems like a psycho with all his shenanigans, but I can see how his presence alone could motivate. I am hoping Argentina plays well because they have so many quality players... and than Messi :)

Good Luck!

I hope Argentina kicks the crap out of England!

i still think he should had brought Zanetti and Cambiasso, especially the last one who finally had a season without injuries, and it was a fantastic one...
2010-06-03 02:50:48
Cambiasso was never taken into account, I am no fan of him either. I think he is great at doing a little bit of everything, but I think we have better players in his position, and Argentina the way we play we don't need a Jack of all trades there, we have a well defined Defensive Middlefield such as Mascherano, and the we need someone that can create plays for the rest (Maradona chose Veron for this role, although I don't agree).

He is not good enough to be the only Defensive Middlefielder, and he is not good enough to create danger in the offensive side. I was more worried that he didn't call Banega or Gago.

Concerning Zanetti, he is probably the opposite of Maradona as human being (and at one point you can't have a leader that believes that you are a piece of crap, and someone like Zanetti will have that opinion of Maradona). Besides right now, even he is in a superlative level for his age, if you look at Inter's games, he just plays like a freaking bulldozer, just lows his head and goes forwards until he looses the ball. Maradona is not playingi with side defenders (he is playing with 4 centre defenders) and on the sides you have Di Maria and Gutierrez, that are much more athletic that Zanetti

Cheers

From my point of view, i believe Argentina will do the same World Cup they did in 2002. Same for Italy, i don't think Italy will go out of the group stage either....

but anyway, it is just my opinion
2010-06-03 19:09:33
Nah, except the Mexico group, all the others have 2 clear winners I think.

But we will see

So far I have been the only one in freestyle forum, who predicts USA to win world cup. I am sure it´s possible, however rather difficult, because there are at least 10 other teams who are also able to do so aswell. Will see how it goes.

Btw anyone is willing to explain what has happened with ´wunderkid´ Freddy Adu? A month ago or so there was page long article about him in our local soccer magazine. Plays in Greece as far as I remember.

he sux.
2010-06-03 23:36:38
Mexico dominated against Italy and won 2 1 Mexico got scored on in a corner kick again
2010-06-03 23:38:21
No it wasn't ... it was against Gambia
2010-06-04 01:07:36
USA is going to be the surprise, but he won't be able to handle the pressure against a big team in quarter or semi finals.

Concerning Adu, it was more than obvious that it was just a Nike attempt to create a soccer icon. He was fast and with a little foot skills. Also my guess is that when they said he was 15, he was close to be 24 or so, now he must be almost a grandpa :P.

The same way they tried to find the next Jordan in the NBA and failed over and over again, they also tried to find the first american soccer superstar, and failed obviously.

The U.S. will be horrible in the Cup. They will get steam rolled by England and they will lose to Algeria. The England game will be a complete embarrassment.

The coach is not very good and makes bad decisions during play. The Spain game was luck, as Spain did not put out much effort in the game. The game against Brasil showed how exactly how a bad manager can lose a game. He changed tactics in the game. By trying to protect the lead he let wave after wave of attacks from Brasil come. He abandoned the offense and the U.S. have no defense.

Speaking of the defense, they are horrible. The decision to bring Onyewu and Beasley is ridiculous. Onyewu when healthy is a cancer, now with one leg he's 10 times worse. Bringing Beasley to play at left back will also show to be a mistake. This guy might be even be slower than Onweyu. We would have been better off with the fossil Heyduk.

Also, as much as Altidore had promise after last summer, by going to the EPL to play, I mean ride the bench for Hull, was a HUGE mistake, and it effected his development tremendously. At least if he had stayed in Spain, he would have gotten solid development as spanish clubs develop player skills.
