Asunto: [WC2010]USA-England

The U.S. will be horrible in the Cup. They will get steam rolled by England and they will lose to Algeria. The England game will be a complete embarrassment.

The coach is not very good and makes bad decisions during play. The Spain game was luck, as Spain did not put out much effort in the game. The game against Brasil showed how exactly how a bad manager can lose a game. He changed tactics in the game. By trying to protect the lead he let wave after wave of attacks from Brasil come. He abandoned the offense and the U.S. have no defense.

Speaking of the defense, they are horrible. The decision to bring Onyewu and Beasley is ridiculous. Onyewu when healthy is a cancer, now with one leg he's 10 times worse. Bringing Beasley to play at left back will also show to be a mistake. This guy might be even be slower than Onweyu. We would have been better off with the fossil Heyduk.

Also, as much as Altidore had promise after last summer, by going to the EPL to play, I mean ride the bench for Hull, was a HUGE mistake, and it effected his development tremendously. At least if he had stayed in Spain, he would have gotten solid development as spanish clubs develop player skills.

Just read from wikipedia, that Adu has just turned 21 - his birthday was 2 days ago. Still very young, besides maybe he is a late bloomer:) I hope soccer is his no.1 priority.

@smirker: No need to be that pessimistic:)

He was born in Ghana, If you follow soccer, you must have heard plenty of stories of players from Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon that somehow lie about their age. In Argentina, natives that live in far places get inscribed when they are 3 or 4 years old, and basically their parents say they were born whenever they want. That is why I always had the impression that Adu was not 15 when he became famous.

I am glad since Maradona is going to play with 3 strikers instead of 2. It would be a complete waste if Tevez was on the bench, he might not be the best player in the world, but you always want that kind of player on your team.

Tevez is always full of energy every game I happen to see him playing in.

I agree it would be a huge waste to see him on the bench. And like you say, he isn't the most skilled, but his pace of play always impressed me.

Yeah, I know the story and have read the speculations about his age aswell.

Tevez is one of my favourite players and what a shame SAF let him go to MCity. Seems like he always gives 100%, like an animal on the pitch. Will be interesting to see how Messi is going to play and if Maradona know how to use him. So far for playing Argentina he hasn`t been that good compared to Barcelona, although I am sure you know better.

IMO Milito is the best Argentina has. I liked him since the first time he play in Italy 7-8 years ago.

Not sure how he will play with Messi, but if counter attack is an option Messi and Milito could be very dangerous.....

2 England - 1 USA, simple I hate the word "project" :P

Great first game of USA, unfortunately, sometimes your D line is just too naive.

is is true that Green is related to Bill Buckner?

Great game? How about a very very lucky result.

If it weren't for the gift, that may have gone down as one of the worst performances by any World Cup team ever; however, we still haven't seen North Korea play.

I was wrong about England. They are garbage and Capello is a $9M fraud.

In terms of the U.S., they showed up just like I thought they would. Horrible!!! They couldn't hold the ball. They couldn't pass the ball, they made more completed passes to english players than their own. When that wasn't happening, they were passing the ball out of bounds.

Bradley needs to go. He is the worst! I was right about Onyewu, that guy sucks and was the cause of the Gerrard goal, Ricardo Clark is awful too. The U.S. needed Boca in the middle instead of Onyewu and they could have played Feilhaber at LB and had him push up. They also should have had Torres in instead of Clark. They need someone in the Midfield who's creative and most importantly can carry the ball and serve it to the forwards.

The U.S. had almost zero attack except for the one Altidore run. Why???? Because the genius Bradley takes the best player, Lady Donovan, and puts him out on the wing almost taking him out of the game completely. That guy needs to be in the center on the field and on the ball as much as possible so that someone can carry the ball and get it to the forwards.

Bradley sucks! and get rid of the guy who is running U.S. Soccer, he's not even American, he's from India, someone ought to paddle him with a Cricket stick.

Donovan does not belong in the middle!!! He is not a playmaker. He needs the space and open field to make things happen, and that does not exist in the middle of the field. Donovan is definitely a wing player and does not need to be involved all the time. His time at Everton he learned a lot of his capabilities at the highest level.

I would agree that Bradley was non existent in the game, and I would have subbed him out for a feilhaber or torres, but Bradley is still a solid player and will play much better these next 2 games as the US will have more space in the midfield and won't have to worry about defending Gerrard and Lampard out of the middle of the field.

We have way to different points of view then.

US controlled England, they controlled the middlefield of England, probably one of the most powerful in terms of how can mark and attack at the same time.

You were naive in 2 or 3 situations in the whole game, one the goal. You deserved a tie against one of the candidates, and you could also have won and it wouldn't have been unfair.
2010-06-14 19:39:49
I agree Senhor. It was a sloppy game but the USA took England out of what they wanted to do, and we do not have the talent to play pretty against a team with the quality players that England has.
2010-06-14 20:34:49
The second half was mostly controlled by the US.. I want to say from the 75th minute onward the US was completely in charge of the game as they could be content with a draw, but rather you saw them playing quite aggressively and breaking down nearly every England counter attack. I'm not sure what game you were watching smirker, but I honestly think if that game were to have gone into extra time, the USA would have walked away the winner.
2010-06-16 15:44:52
mrfan, I pretty much said they were quite lucky with the result and their one point, even though they were awful...I still stand by that....I also stated that the U.S. showed that england are not that good of a team.

As far as your comments about the U.S. playing aggressive....they still showed almost zero attack, they only had two shots inside the penalty area in the entire 2nd half, one of which was the Altidore run. Both of those shots were before the 66th minute.

If the team wants to think that they are the team they were last summer, then they need to play like it. In the Spain game, Lady Donovan was used as a CAM and his main purpose was to work with Bradley (michael) to transition the ball from the back third to the front third; Donovan was also involved in the attack, by getting the ball to the forwards it enabled him to join the attack. He and Bradley played great together in the spain game and the 1st half of the Brasil game. As soon as Coach Bradley decided to play defensively, they got burned bad by Brasil.

I'll say it again, Coach Bradley is terrible and needs to go.
