Minkee [del] para Todos
Now the Australia Cup is over, we could organise State Cups.
I know some of us are tied in friendly league (like me) and they would have to wait next season but it could be a nice way to occupy the friendlies... the format would be a simple knock out or include some group stage to make it lasts the distance...

What do you all think?

I'm happy to take care of it if there's enough interest

Im interested and have definitely thought about it, maybe, instead of organising cups, organise teams, and we have a set list on one of the forums, to stop us from having to play our own state

Interesting idea. So we represent the state?

We could nominate 3 teams per state to do battle. So there would be A-grade, B-grade & C-grade to play off against each and the sum of the 3 scores would be the state's score.

act1 = Comets
nsw1 = TBF
etc...

A: act1, nsw1, nt1, sa1, tas1, vic1, wa1
B: act2, nsw2, nt2, sa2, tas2, vic2, wa2
C: act3, nsw3, nt3, sa3, tas3, vic3, wa3

ACT = sum(act1, act2, act3)
NSW = sum(nsw1, nsw2, nsw3)
NT = sum(nt1, nt2, nt3)
(these scores would be taken from the friendly league tables to make up the BOTS battle of the states table.)

It's a bit different to Minkee's idea about finding the best from each state, but I reckon some friendly state vs state rivalry could be fun. It would be easy to maintain using the league tables. We could add a few more grades too if there are enough active teams (we might ditch NT). And another benefit of this format is that teams will be playing other teams at a similar level, which will make for better games and bigger crowds.

The only problem is that managers will want to use the friendlies as training rather than putting their best XI on the park.

We will never be able to have a true cup, but that sort of idea would work if we can get enough from each state but even then it really isnt necerssary to have as many because we can always have multiple teams from the biger states in each division, and thye jsut get a bye when it comes time to play one another.

And come the final week, instead of having a NSW against another country we could have interstate comps

That would sums a bit more tricky. The way I imagine it working is to set up a separate league for each grade. So they'd look like this...

A: The_Comets, TBF, Roar FC, Chelsea.F.C, PRT, Tribe.
B: Frogmeisters15, GG, Achmids Soul, Dragons United, FCM, Collie Lions.
C: Cumlionibus, Jyuukenbu, Krayzee Coconuts, Eleebana IDs, Sheffield Wednesday, Snappa Serpents.

ACT: The_Comets, Frogmeisters15, Cumlionibus
NSW: The Black Flashes, Gondor Guardians, Jyuukenbu F.C
QLD: Roar FC, Achmids Soul, Krayzee Coconuts
TAS: Chelsea.F.C, Dragons United, Eleebana IDs
VIC: PRT, FCM, Sheffield Wednesday [:D]
WA: Tribe, Collie Lions, Snappa Serpents

The sum of the point scores of the state reps in each grade will be the state's overall score... ie. a win is worth 3pt to the state score, draw 1pt. Each rep plays each other rep in the grade once.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. And the more I know it can't work. The #1 problem is trainees. [:/]

the other thing to consider is A grade is looking very much like A League and whether sides want to keep playing A League sides in friendlies as well as the league itself is another thing to consider. Personally I'd like to have a bit of variety across the season but it's an interesting idea for sure.

Good idea this, but I would chose the leagues a bit differently.

I would draw one team from ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, VIC and WA in one group, but at random.

Whoever you meet from the a-league wold be strong no matter what, and more fun to base it on pure good/bad luck than a setup that would look almost the same next season. :)

that sounds rather interesting and avoids the potential case I stated about the A League teams playing A League teams all season. Would be very interesting.

ok...
while some discuss the format we can gain some time doing a list of who is interested by this State Battle Cup so we might get an idea of what format would suit better... remember only 8 weeks left! so only 8 games available...

Please copy this and add your team name and state.

I'm allready in a league so can't participate. But hopefully you'll have a great setup planned allready at the start of next season so we can wait for this great happening :)

I also can't participate this season either. Have booked matches for week 9 and 14 this season, so it would cause problems for scheduling.
2007-12-15 18:05:57
Yep, I'm out too. Was more thinking of next season. Trying to suss out what would actually work and provide a bit of excitement. I don't think we have a winning formula yet.
2007-12-16 00:30:18
I'm out too since I'm in friendly league!
I'm sure we'll come out with the right format for next season since there's a bit of crowd interested :)
2007-12-16 08:50:18
Well I'm in all you bludgers, and if it is just me QLD win :P...wait, I don't want to represent QLD haha.

But I think the idea would be great for next season, we have plenty of time to organise it, and it wont discriminate teams that stay in the cup longer, because ti can jsut start early with the teams who get knocked out earlier.
2007-12-16 09:06:30
yehh i believe leaving it for next season would be good..give me time to build my team up, still got a lot of work to do...
but GO TASSIE!!..but do i really live in tasmania muhahaha =]
2007-12-16 11:23:11
If we decide to start it before the cup is over it means we have to rack up a lot of D3 and D4 teams... I'm not convinced there are that many active players in these divisions or they're very shy and don't participate in the forums...
I'm more keen on a 8 week competition but as usual I'm open :)
