Asunto: State Cup

If we decide to start it before the cup is over it means we have to rack up a lot of D3 and D4 teams... I'm not convinced there are that many active players in these divisions or they're very shy and don't participate in the forums...
I'm more keen on a 8 week competition but as usual I'm open :)

Another thing we could do is have randomly drawn leagues where one team from each state is represented, but the scores are summed not on points but goal difference. It would be a bit more complicated to follow but the A-League teams would get their wish of a bit of variety in the teams they come up against.

Just another idea to throw into the ring.

I was thinking depending on how many state enters this cup... (I know there's 8 but some of them aint got users) say 6 for ease of explanation.
format:
- 5 rounds over 5 weeks (each state plays the other once, weeks 8-9-10-11-12)
- top 4 states qualify for 1/2 (1st v 4th; 2nd v 3rd, week 13)
- Finals (for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, week 14)

if we want to start week 0, we can have home and away game all the way and have the competition take place on 14 weeks!
To not restrict entries I suggest we dont limit the amount of teams per states but only take the 3,4 or 5 best results (depending on entries) per week following vivski scoring system

If this is on then I am in... next season. Great idea.

I think we're getting closer to a format which may actually work. That format with 2 weeks of finals could be really good.

Just thought of another way to score it. A whole state plays another whole state each round... so R1: NSWvQLD, WAvVIC, TASvACT. The teams which play against each other are randomly drawn manually.
So it could be (NSWvQLD) N1vQ3, N2vQ1, N3vQ4, N4vQ2, N5vQ5. But each state's score is calculated on the 3 best results for the state... so if N1 blows Q3 apart then that game will count as 3pts for NSW and dropped for QLD (so GD will not count).

If that makes any sense...

The downside is it's a bit more effort.

Actually, it could be...

R1: NSWvQLD, WAvVIC, TASvACT.

NSW scores 15 goals, QLD scores 10 goals... NSW wins and gets 3pts (+5gd) for the round.
WA scores 3 goals, VIC scores 45 goals... VIC gets 3pts (+42gd)
TAS scores 10 goals, ACT scores 10 goals... ACT 1pt (+0), TAS 1pt (+0)

Might be a bit easier to follow. But would it be fair? Not sure.

I'm thinking maybe we should put teams into classes as well so it looks more fair.
Like AL can only play AL or D2
a D2 can only play a AL, D2 or D3
a D3 can only play a D2, D3 or D4
I don't think it would make it harder to organise but it would give less predictable score lines generally and make it more interesting for some... ???

That sound good. Maybe just mix the top 3 or 4 teams into a pool and the rest into another pool?

EDIT: Actually, your idea is much better. AL cannot play D3/D4, D2 cannot play D4.

And also I think, correct me if I'm wrong, the game should be played at the best stadium of the two teams so everybody gets the best ticket income out of it...
