Well we have 23 entries so far so it looks like we're keen to have some competition between ourselves as well as generate some ticket money that is gonna stay in our country!
There's two more weeks before I'll close the entries and so far it looks like we're gonna have 5 states competing against each other which complicates the draw a little bit but we'll see what the next 2 weeks will bring entry wise before drawing any conclusion...
One thing I would like to finalise is the lenght of the competition and the match format.
1-Length
We can start week1 after the first teams have been out of the cup or we can start after the cup is over.
I am not bother either way... what do you think?
2- Match format
Imo we should organise the match following the league game format and it should take place in the better stadium of the two teams. first reason being it will limit the risks of injury (90mn of play vs 120mn), second reason is the profit will be bigger.
Any comments, please throw them at me now!

I think it is a great idea to have it in the league format.
Also starting week one woul dbe great.
We may even be able to ocnsider league games that count towards this, because a few teams will play eachother in leagues, which will cut down on the number of weeks you would have to play each other once.
Then again, if we were to have saya few round robin comps, then maybe this wouldn't work so well.
Just joting down ideas as they come to my head, I'm just looking forward to having some interstate rivalry.
And depending how the teams are decided, Im happy to play for ACt as I was born there if required.

I let you know about going to ACT later, at the moment it looks like ACT and TAS would joined forces (which annoy me a bit cause it screws my ideal format). QLD has just about the right amount of teams to justify being on its own...
Ideally I would like to implement this format (from old topic):
- 5 rounds over 5 weeks (each state plays the other once, weeks 8-9-10-11-12)
- top 4 states qualify for 1/2 (1st v 4th; 2nd v 3rd, week 13)
- Finals (for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, week 14)
if we want to start week 0, we can have home and away game all the way and have the competition take place on 14 weeks!
but I need ACT and TAS to have more teams so yes I'm happy to move people around but I won't do it if it weakens an other one number wise (jez... really struggling with my english today...)
Thanks for the input though:)

yeah might have to do some door to door knocking... I would think the Sokker Australia forum is more lively than any division forum but it's a good point anyway... I'll see where we are in a week first.
People are free to join this cup and I dont want it to be a hassle, if they want friendlies with foreign teams then it's best they don't join because we might run this for 14 weeks...

guys. im a NSWelshman, and am playing for WA, so if you need to chop and change me to make a state even, go for it.. no sweat .. cheers
Actually Minkee, it shouldn't be too much of a problem with 5 teams as you've stated it.
Better to start from week 8 imo, will allow every side to participate from the same stage, only thing is sides knocked out earlier must not join friendly leagues, but rather accept a single friendly in the weeks before the comp starts.
5 teams of 5 shouldn't be a problem, because one state can have a bye, and if they wanted to could play against each other or organize a friendly elsewhere for 1 week.
I also suggest random pairings just so the newer weaker clubs have a chance of gaining more money.
Then make it something like:
Individual match rubbers: 1 point for a win
Individual match goal difference: goal difference as usual
Overall round: Winner with most rubbers -> 3 pts win, 1 pt draw or something
Overall rubbers: Summation of match rubbers
Overall goal difference: Summation of goal difference
Then sort based on number of points overall, then rubbers overall, then goal difference if required.
Then you'd have a ladder system.
Just ideas anyway, but week 8 would be best to start imo.

im happy to play for act or tas if they need more numbers just to even things up ( happy face )
If anybody gets knocked out in the cup early (like me), we can always organise friendlies between ourselves.
yeh we should organise friendlies for those people that get kicked out of the cup early to maybe speed up and shorten the process and wicked you only wanna join the merger of ACT/TAS because i'm there, im on to you buddy, but i dont think TAS or ACT will get anymore people unless people join now!
hey matty you know im a die hard act supporter in both forms of rugby so y not in sokker?
The only thing I hate in any tournament are byes :)
with them the standing are almost meaningless until you reach the last round... I suppose it's the european germ in me...
if we can do without them I would do so :)
but yeah 5 states is nothing tricky at all to organise I agree...

I don't really see too much of a problem with byes but can understand why people might not like them ;).

To avoid byes, you could play 2 rounds at a time. So each round will take 2 weeks, but you will play 2 at a time, so after 2 weeks you complete 2 rounds. Then you can arrange the games with no byes without completely buggering things up.
So:
R1 & R2 (wk8 & wk9)
A/T vs QLD & VIC
NSW vs QLD & WA
QLD vs A/T & NSW
VIC vs A/T & WA
WA vs NSW & VIC
After that you get a championship table based on cometer's points system.
R3 & R4 (wk10 & wk11)
A/T vs NSW & WA
NSW vs A/T & VIC
QLD vs VIC & WA
VIC vs NSW & QLD
WA vs A/T & QLD
That would logically work, and you'd have 4 rounds with a table at the end and no byes (aside from awol managers). You'd just have to do the maths and tell people who they're going to be playing each week. Then go through and tally the results.
That would appear to be the most straight forward way to do it unless you go with byes... which would be an easier format to follow and manage, but would result in teams having to organise their own friendlies (which could be against others in their state).
I'm not fussed by the length of games. But league length seems to be the most popular.
I'm also not fussed on who I play, but the A-League teams seem to like the idea of playing non-A-League teams and they have the most to lose from it, so I'd say go with random selection. It will probably work out, 'cos the top teams usually play #2 teams, while those in lower leagues can generally afford to throw in #1 team players.

Ok here we go...
The competition will start week8 after the completion of the Australia Cup. This is to simplify the situation so nobody gets confused and to allow both competitions to keep their own identity.
Entries:
- every team already registered need to keep friendly games slot free between week 8 and week 14 included
- From today to week 8, I hope to fill a sixth state in order to apply the following format (people already volunteer to be shuffled around so that might help in case we need to go to that extend).
Format
- 5 rounds over 5 weeks (each state plays the other once, weeks 8-9-10-11-12)
- top 4 states qualify for 1/2 (1st v 4th; 2nd v 3rd, week 13), last 2 states play for 5th spot.
- Finals (for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, week 14)
every game to be played as league game at the best stadium of the two teams.
Calendar to be published soon...

Just a little suggestion: the "friendly" games between the two teams must be accepted by Sunday midnight.
Just in case one manager can't log on for a week, at least the other manager can try to scrape in a last minute friendly for the training.
