Australia Cup

Despite having a 15-8 shots advantage, Punt Road Tigers could only find the back of the net once as Jokers & Hackers provided their second upset win in a row with a pair of goals from Cedric Veenhof. A fuming TerjeH branded the result "ridiculous".

Forest Green Rovers had too much drive through the center of the park for Boyd Singers in their 4-1 win in the battle-of-the-bots.

Tornado Tigers stuck to their usual 2 center-backs formation against Tollygunge and despite giving up 12 shots managed to keep a clean sheet. The 'Gunge drew ahead 2-1 in the penalty shootout, but Pommier hit the crossbar, Nikas the upright and Bottinelli drilled it into the keeper. Before they knew it, the game was over as Vieri just beat Tükk, before midfielder Ziecik slotted home the first competitive goal of his career to send the Tigers through to the next round.

The Charismatic Llamas won a dour 1-nil victory over Real Galah. Just 12 shots in the match.

Melbourne Victory FC had a late comeback to beat Salgaocar. The capacity home crowd of 16400 was silenced in the 72nd minute when Sadecki's innocuous free-kick bounced into the net. Home crowd Iordache finally finding the back of the net after a scuffle in the box in the last minute of regulation. German, veteran Dicker found some space towards the end of the first extra-period and his strike proved to be the winner, Victory home 2-1.

Newcastle Knights had the comeback of the round however. Down 3-nil at the half, they had 4 goals in the last 30 minutes (including the winner in the dying seconds of regulation) to steal the win. The joyous crowd danced in the rain as the dejected Larissa United squad headed for the team bus.

Civilwar F.C provided the last upset of the round 1-nil victors over Newcastle Titan05. Young Pole Gustaw Wypij the hero for the homeside as he drove his 39th minute free-kick right at the wall, the ball taking a cruel deflection off War striker Alogdellis to wrong foot the keeper. They held on to their lead grimly for the next 50 minutes to proceed into the round of 32.

Dominating wins from Frogmeisters15 (13-0), The Black Flashes (10-0) and Gondor Guardians (9-0).

Other close results where the favourite won were: Losers (2-1 over inter united), Cumlionibus (1-0 over Bushrangers FC), Melbourne Victory (2-1 over CE Principat), Larikan FC (3-2 over metal cows), Tupp United (2-1 over Baldivis FC.) and Me..megan (2-1 over railriders)

Teams remaining in the cup:
A-League: 7
II: 19
III: 6

A-League

Achmids Soul were in trouble at home after Sussi struck early for Chelsea.F.C. Blomqvist equallised for the home side on 28 minutes and whilst Chelsea produced more chances, the home side hung on grimly until a contentious penalty late saw Chelsea's Gmoch coolly strike home the winner. 1-2 Chelsea. Chelsea's first win moved them into the top 4, whilst the home loss dropped the Soul to sixth.

Controversy in Victoria when Tribe's formation was deemed invalid on a technicality. Despite flying the team across from WA and being ready to play with any of the 22 formations available to them the officials refused to let Tribe take the pitch and awarded a 5-0 walkover to FCM Tigers. "Its a ludicrous decision! What sort of Mickey Mouse league are they running here?" - Naphtali, Tribe Manager. Initial reports that Naphtali will be fined for his outburst have proven unfounded although its understood he has received a strong reprimand. Tribe picked up young keeper Iganacio Tantos (939k) and moved on their older reserve keeper Tinoco (280k). FCM moved to outright second on the table, whilst Tribe slipped to seventh.

It was an action-packed in the nations capital territory when The_Comets hosted Punt Road Tigers. The home side leapt out of the gates when Necevski scored a screamer from range and Augerinos followed up a deflected header with a tap-in all in the first 22 minutes. Davidson narrowed the gap on 35 minutes with a strike of his own. Augerinos struck again, this time from range. And when Radosz' cross found the back of the net a minute later the game looked over. Rzewuski kept PRT in the hunt after Davidson provided a delightfully weighted ball angled through the home sides defense. Davidson struck again with 10 minutes to play, but that was the last real chance of the match. The paltry crowd of 15,273 went home happy. The_Comets jumped to 5th, whilst PRT remain without a point propping up the league table.

Scott Ward struck again, providing the first goal after just 5 minutes when Roar FC hosted The Black Flashes. TBF looked more dangerous for most of the game though and may have found a new striker to challenge Bade and Flamant for a start in Wesley Rose. Normally known for his hard-nosed defending, his tackling at the other end of the pitch was pivotal in all three of the Flashes goals. TBF, traditionally a strong finisher stands clear at the top of the table. Roar FC in third are comfortably ahead of fourth.

II.01

TAB and CenterBet are both reporting a lot of action on the conference this week.

Tong FC hosted inter united. The strike pairing of Ehm and Nalis found too much space, too often in the home sides defense. Both got off a half-dozen strikes on goal. Mid-fielder Milne converted the penalty for the sol goal for the home team. Ehm bagging a hattrick as the away side won it 1-3.

Melbourne Magpies made it a bit of a shooting gallery with 26 shots on the goal of Civilwar F.C. Despite that Civilwar opened the scoring when Wypij found Malkiewicz. Despite plenty of chances earlier it wasn't until the 52nd minute when the 'Pies restored parity after a scuffle in the box. A nice 1-2 combination between Bastianini and Pop provided the winner for the Melbourne in the 73rd. Pies win at home 2-1. MM picked up 362k after selling a youth GK prospect. Civilwar signed a new keeper for 800k last week.

Heubach had a hattrick in the opening 12 minutes for Gondor Guardians as they destroyed Melbourne Victory 5-nil. Heubach added a fourth on the stroke of half time. Foley scoring late to complete the romp.

Tollygunge came from 0-2 and then 1-3 down in the first half to win a memorable 4-3 victory over Losers at home. The second of vejvoda's second half double tied the scores at 3-3 and Skrzetuski's goal in the dying minutes of regulation resulted in some wild scenes from the capacity 25k crowd.

II.02

Only goal difference now seperates the 2nd-5th teams in II.02 after the results this weekend. Salapasidis jumped on 2 rebounds to see BushrangersFC win 0-2 on the road against Newcastle Titan05. Teen Girl Squad and Dragons United fought out a scoreless draw. Sheffield Wednesday and Aussie Bhoys also fought out a draw, 1-1. League leaders Jyuukenbu F.C are still yet to concede a league goal this season, winning 4-nil over Shore Chillz.

On the transfer market. Sheffield Wednesday picked up 100k for 2 minor players. Bushrangers FC acquired a young, trainee defender (56k) ang a youngish, attacker (147k). Aussie Bhoys made the biggest move of the round acquiring striker, Raffaello Nardulli (3.4mill) who scored on debut.

II.03

Larikan FC maintain top place with their come from behind 2-1 victory over Railriders at home. C.N.F had plenty to be happy with as they drilled 5 past Tornado Tigers whilst also keeping a clean sheet. Krayzee Coconuts allowed just Cumlionibus just two shots in their 2-nil win. FC de BEARS struck early and then often in their 4-nil win over Team Moose Power who only managed 2 shots for the game.

TMP acquired 20yo, defender / midfielder, Edward Swinehart (2.3mill). Tornado Tigers released a young GK (200k) and acquired a young forward (200k).

II.04

Raging Parabolas will be disappointed going down 0-1 to Forest Green Rovers. A set play from a throw-in did the damage. With FGR in bot-mode you wouldn't expect a repeat of that later in the season. Taigum Terriers mauled DVS_Strikers 5:0 to put them in 2nd position. Strikers looked a bit hard done on the final score, but the overall result seemed fair. Boyd Singers claim their first scalp in the form of Salgaocar. Singers had 5 less shots (11-16) but found the net 3 times to Salgaocar's 1 to claim the victory. Frogmeisters15 and Real Galah had a nil-all draw. None of Frog's 15 shots, nor the Galah's 5 could break the deadlock. Frogs still clear atop the table, but now only by a point. Terriers and Rovers just behind on 6. Salgaocar a surprising last on 0 points.

Terriers had a busy week saying goodbye to Andrew Blute (563k), Naum Budin (733k), Martin Tuđman(500k) and Damian Last(775k) and welcoming Rudolf Popara (2mill, 22yo defender). Salgaocar moved on 6 players for about 350k.

Sorry this is so late and gets a bit more brief towards the end. I decided it was better to get it up now and be a bit lighter given I'd already been beaten by the cup this week.

Bad news I'm afraid.

I've gone from a client site back to the mothership at work. Unfortunately that means I can't access sokker form work and despite being bored out of my skull at the moment I won't have the time outside of work hours to do this any more :(

Good work Naphtali...

Maybe we should carry it on all together... What is stopping one guy per league to do a resume of each game? or a review of the cup?
