Asunto: The Clearout

Cloete [del] para Todos
Has any other long-serving manager ever considered clearing out his team (bar the odd player who he just can't resist keeping) and starting again? I've given it so much thought and can't get the idea out of my head haha.

Basically, I don't have the team to win the A-League and my good players aren't getting any younger. I have some really nice looking young midfielders but none of them are going to be 'special'. So it's so tempting just to unload quite a few older guys and get a ridiculous amount of money then start again. I've got a couple of ideas in mind about how I'd go about it.

Of course the problem then is the sponsor money problem. I got $364k this week in sponsor money and $280k from my sold out stadium. But with my large numbers of supporters I should imagine I'd still sell out quite a lot.

It'd certainly be interesting and I was just wondering if anyone else had ever considered it? I know de Bears did something like this a few seasons ago.

I was going to shell out my heaps older players and get much younger ones, but i'm doing it gradually now instead =]

Adidas Predators used to sell off essentially their entire team every off-season. (At least 2 in a row, then I promoted so wasn't paying as much attention to them)

I want to clear out quite a few more players from my team... I have 5.5mil sitting in my bank, but just can't find anybody good to buy, before I start offloading more.

Looking for star tech trainee mids/atts, talent less/equal to 4.

i think you should do it too, i will even help by taking some of your "average" players off your hands, I am just that type of guy ;-)

I'd disagree about the first sentence of the 2nd paragraph. You came within 1 goal of doing it last season and so far you've only lost the 1 game.

There is benefit in doing so but it requires patience. Personally I'm trying to rebuild gradually, been stockpiling a lot of cash lately.

Bears are just now starting to really look like coming good again after a few seasons of rebuilding, although admittedly last season they were going pretty good.

The other thing to consider with an entire rebuild is to get the cash to do so. Given the market is even more expensive then in previous seasons, finding decent enough youngsters to fill the team makes things a bit tougher.

Certainly do-able if you wanted to do it though.

Interesting idea.. I might try it out.

Ive thought about it but to do it successfully which would put you on par with TBF you need a lot of time for the game and the transfer market (as well as a good understanding of he transfer market)

I have a pretty good understanding and what players are worth but no the time to scour the transfer market so couldnt be bothered doing it.

I've not done the same, but had a bit more slow revolution. My team is very young except from a few key older players.

Result is of course that I will relegate this season, but in a few season I think I will be able to make a better fight for a title.

Problem is of course that I lose heavily on supporters, lose at lot on gate attendance this season, but maye in the long run. I was tired of the old farts and have more fun now with my young guns. Especially fun to buy big talents that may break into national squads :)

Id love to clear out half my side. The problem is good players are only ever listed at ridiculous hours. I dont care enough or know enough about the sokker transfer market to be up the required hours to buy players.

Here is my shopping list if someone wants to help.

2 strikers
2or3 defenders
1 GK
1 midfielder (but i think id be out of cash by this stage).

I've been following the market at the higher end of town for 20-25yo's for quite some time so if you have an idea of either what skills you want, or what you can get for a certain amount of $$$$ at a certain position then I can give you some ballpark estimates.

Often times an early bid at just over market value (even if only by 100-200k on a several million $$$ player) can get you the player regardless of when they are going off.

Yeah I would agree witht hat early bid statement. It puts people off bidding just to watch the player which means come transfer time less people watching.

It can have the opposite affect though if you are after a future Nt player, not an awesome polish trainee

Im not sure how much cash i will have, need to sell players first. My uneducated guess tells me about 5 mill for each player i mentioned above (excluding the middie).
