cheers. A brief report on Lietuva shall be up later tonight in case any of Australian users are interested.
We're all set for this game against Lietuva. Realistically, I'm not expecting to win, but I'm certainly hoping we can get the win. Major concern this week is having Ando out injured.
Well into round 2 now against Lietuva. As promised here's a little introduction.
Australia vs Lietuva
# Users 113 - 205
National team rank 28 - 7
Rank points 1632.79 - 2206.42
Record In World Cup Qualifications 7 wins,3 draws,9 losses - 16 wins,1 draw,2 losses
Previous encounters
2005-09-24 Lietuva - Australia 7 - 1
Major Goalscorers during past encounters
Vladislovas Korsakas 4 (Lietuva)
William Newhill 1 (Australia)
Coming into this game now, Australia are 1 from 1 whilst Lietuva had a bit of a shock loss which is only their second ever loss in a world cup qualifying tournament.
We've only played Lietuva once and that was all the way back in the first season of the national teams. On that day we were comprehensively beaten 7 - 1. Back then we only had around 30-40 users and we've now got a more active user base then before.
This will be a very difficult game to have to play but it should test out two things:
1) How much stronger our national team has gotten relative to how stronger their national team has gotten.
2) Whether we have the ability to match it at least competitively (even if we don't win) with some of the better sides.
Hoping for it to be a good game but a lot of these comparison things are strongly in favour of Lietuva.
On these grounds alone we have nothing to lose after a crucial win last week and will be trying to extend our starting form.
The competition shall start next week and run for 10 weeks. At this stage I'm still tossing up whether to have a quiz type competition or a tipping type quiz. If any of you have any preference let me know.

fairly disappointed with that result. Could have been a lot worse then it was. They kept splitting the gap in between Broxton and Garland and then had a few metres head start and that happened quite often. Was always going to be a difficult task without Ando though.
Ouch...:(
3 things:
*too offensively
*2 wings is with new engine too much...and our wingers have too weak pace and tech to go past their defs, you need to use high one...
*Lawton is in bad form..:(
Anyway it's not a tragedy, 3rd place is still Australian.

Tough loss guys. I was cheering for you. Lietuva is very strong, and they are very tough to beat. I doubt we (Norway) will beat them next time.

Yeah, playing 2 wings didn't really work too well. I had noticed that wingers had caused trouble to Lietuva in the past so that's what persuaded me to try the two wingers.
I had not a lot of choice with keeper selection since Ando was injured (although clicked over to slightly injured after the updates) so that didn't help much apart from all the early misses which gave us a slight chance when we drew level 1 - 1.
As for playing too offensively, well I didn't really want to play super defensive as although it would minimize the damage we wouldn't have been able to score. Using the two wings probably backfired but it was a gamble I took which was to try and get some open space.
Still when you look at the Lietuvan ratings, we were always going to up against it as they are a very strong team. Need to go and defeat the other 3 teams now ;).
Keep the post match comments coming, the more things I hear from people the more I learn about how to fix things for the future :).
