I know why Australia lost today.

Yeah they marked Widera well from the throw ins. I had moved Widera into a different position, and tried to have it where no Norge defenders had previously been to allow a free through ball to our strikers, however, with Norge changing the defense structure they ended up choosing a spot which marked Widera perfectly.

After 60 minutes I was satisfied where we were and was hoping we could score against the run of play in that last 20 where they seemed to take control. That might have occurred due to substituting an out of form Zdrilic on for Timpano as once that substitution occurred we really struggled to get any momentum forward.

Bad luck cometer. Gave it a crack.
The marking from throw-ins was really disappointing. They were always clear and we were always marked. That really hurt. I still detest the formation defending throw-ins... it's residual from borkos and I think it's now redundant.

I don't think I've seen two more conservative tactics hit off against each other. Neither team took any risks at all. The only risk was the risk of scoring. I thought it was heading for 0-0 after the first 10mins was more like watching a game of tennis.
I think that reflects more on their tactics than anything. It made the teams look very even and didn't take advantage of their skill surplus.

The result was a shame. There were a couple of regrettable mistakes in the tactic which unfortunately are repeat mistakes. But in the end we had nothing to lose and watching the game was quite encouraging.

vs France it's going to be U21 or first team? :)

Not this week due to being ineligible for U21 ;). However, anything is possible for future weeks as I have serious thinking to do before we play Norge again.

Hirons should be fit for Norge...

Today we take on France in an U21 game. We've played them twice before, once in the world cup itself where we lost narrowly . Thing is though we haven't been able to find the back of the net. Hopefully this changes today.

We have a few injury problems with Hirons and Leijer both out. This gives a few players a chance to get a run to show what they've got.
