Asunto: National Team

2008-01-19 19:50:40
yeh for sure.

By my calculations, if we win by the required number of goals, there are 2 places for 4 teams...Australia, Peru, Uruguay and Cymru.

But if we can beat colombia, then we can virtually knock them out of the WC too because I think that Uruguay will win, and cymru or Peru will have a big win.

And even if it wasn't for that Bulgaria match, it wouldn't make much difference (if we drew or lost to colombia next week) bcause we would still be out. The only difference it makes, is if we were to win, we woul dhave been through.

Anyway, we will be doing our best to get the required goals.

Well worked out when the crucial matches are happening and here's what I consider to be crucial matches which will effect how qualifying pans out.

Lietuva - Canada -- 11:00
Osterreich - Bosnia -- 12:00
England - Scotland -- 13:00
Portugal - Latvija -- 13:00
Uruguay - Indonesia -- 17:00
Venezuela - Hong Kong -- 18:00
Colombia - Australia -- 19:00
Peru - Guatemala -- 19:00
Al Maghrib - Cymru -- 21:30

Our kickoff is the 2nd last in this list (equal with Peru) which means we'll know if we have a chance or not. So we'll know 6 hours before the match starts whether we can make it or not.

Obviously Cymru has the best position of those currently sitting outside the top 6 excluding Uruguay who I've counted as an almost definite qualifier, as they will know precisely the amount of goals needed to qualify by then if they indeed can.

What we really need to hope for, is 3 or 4 of those top 5 games go our way, then if that happens, we need to score more goals then either Cymru or Peru and we still have to win by 4 goals minimum to even stand a chance.

Even if we can't make it, the aim will then turn to preventing Colombia from making it to end the campaign with a win and start collecting vital ranking points to ensure we don't have the same misfortune with the newer nations as we did this season.

Already thinking of possible tactics at this stage, although won't have it finalized until much later.

I wish you the best of luck for qualifying!

Well there's one result we needed with Osterreich failing to win. Next in line is Scotland.

One door opens, need a few more.

Let's pray! :P

I'm quite happy...my Pawlusinski was a nightmare for Germany today - out of 7 goals for Poland, he scored 4, had 1 assist and got one penalty - so 6 goals out of 7 made by him :)

Portugal won, Scotland drew, 2 doors close. Not promising any more, unless Slovenija cough up against Indonesia.

Uruguay won. We're now fighting for Colombia's spot against Cymru, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia. I think that's asking too much just quietly, we're disadvantaged in that we have to play Colombia whilst the others get straight forward goalfests.

Bad luck...btw, can you make Willis play only about 45min, if you're going to use him? Would be grateful...and I haven't seen Thompson lately :)
2008-01-26 18:23:04
If they wants to qualify, they need to win with a lot of goals...
They'll need Willis all the game...
2008-01-26 18:41:13
Thompson sin't much weaker...and Willis...you need to have someone to score his passes, Byers isn't too good at it...:/
2008-01-26 18:58:13
I'm sleepy 5am here. Yeah Byers hasn't been doing it, but someone else might be able to....
2008-01-26 19:22:08
:D.

All I'm gonna say, til I check that Peru killed Guatemala.
2008-01-26 19:23:33
they did... 7-0.
2008-01-26 19:24:34
Yeah was on the cards. The 4-1 win against RD last week hurt us but the knockout punch was the draw with Bulgaria where we dominated.

One thing I will say is I think that's about the best result I've had against a stronger nation. Cheers for the advice from both Achmid and vivski. Credit where it's due, gave myself some valuable ideas which assisted in this result.

Great match today. A real shame the WC won't have Australia (because of one stupid result). You can hold your heads high for running a stellar qualifying campaign. :)
