I have a feeling it was something greg once said, as it sticks in my mind quite clearly as something a dev said

My understanding is that player decisions are made (along with the player order) by where opposing players (and team-mates) are, rather then who the opposing players are.

Ie. A winger doesn't look at a defender and say "he's got tragic defending ... I can take him" or "he's got divine defending, I better pass." Rather, when he looks up and sees a defender in front of him he considers where his team-mates are. If he has an open pass, he's more likely to try it. If he doesn't have a good pass option, he's more likely to take on the defender.

Like Achmid, I'm quite certain I read this from a fairly official source, but I have no idea where. :P

It will depend on form updates of course but I'd be fairly surprised if we didn't run with Stephenson + Richter + Maras, subbing a forward as usual.

anyway, he 'sees' the position of the def and knows if he gets tackled from behind, up front or from side and that might have an impact on what he does. He rarely passes when the def is behind him, he usually dribbles then.

we are saying the same thing mate :) my 'he knows if he gets tackled...' was just about from which side there will be an attempt to tackle him, not 'he knows if he gets tackled or not from behind...' :)

I'd certainly at this stage be looking at the likes of

Richter-Stephenson-Maras and potentially even Storey/Croxall.

A lot comes down to form and who's available. I think it would be unlikely I'd go in with say both Richter and Storey, simply because they're both the same type of player currently and we probably will need a stronger finisher to maximize our chances of scoring, which is why it would be likely be Richter-Maras-Storey for 1 or 2 spots against Stephenson/Croxall for the other.

Certainly not the end, had it hit our central midfield instead it may have been a little more troublesome but we've got a little depth in strikers still.

I can't see Croxall making up the form difference this week :(
2008-09-02 04:50:48
Yeah a similar position as Storey.
2008-09-04 12:29:57
Stephenson + Richter/Maras is the trio?
2008-09-04 12:43:11
don't forget players like Croxall/Storey/Mitchell/Augerinos

They will all have to be thought about as well

Augerinos has only very good form, Croxie excellent, Mitchell very good, Storey very good

I checked it before writing :)

will certainly look closer at it tonight, but I noticed similar things in relation to form improvements yesterday. Going to be a mighty important game tomorrow, not sure how much time I've actually got between now and the game, certainly isn't going to be ideal but as usual I'll try to come up with something.

Goooooood info :] Federations are made, and along with this - National Federations. click - Aussie Federation. That means you can write about tactics etc. there and only people who you will accept to the Association will be able to read it. :)

Side selected and set ready for tomorrow's game. Since I'll be out from 9am to around 3-4pm I've had to squeeze time in to get it ready tonight, will add the final touches to it tomorrow morning before I'm unavailable, but hope it's at a reasonable standard. Pretty disappointed to be this busy during such an important qualification match but life has a way of interrupting things. We've got a few players unavailable this week making it a bit harder and requiring other players to take that next step up and fill the holes. Should be a pretty close encounter, just hope we're able to end up in the lead at the end of the 90minutes so we can finish off what has been a rather strong qualification campaign so far.

Can i join the association yet?
2008-09-06 08:23:59
don't know, I haven't been online enough to find out. Anyway made the tweaks and hopefully we end up with the win.

30min before kick-off...
how convenient to log just before a crucial game like that one!
Go socceroos :)
