Asunto: National Team

That said, no one gets tough groups on a regular basis the way Australia does (some of this is bad luck, a lot of this is seeding issues caused by the addition of new teams). But it's not like New Zealand is getting a handed a punched ticket every time qualifying comes around. :)

Who said anything about getting free rides :p. I was only fighting fire with fire against Barhilo ;).

That said, at the time of that Denmark/Turkey saga Turkey were only just starting to find their current form and Denmark I feel are over rated, at least they were then imo. They often left gaping holes in the defense which I so often wished we had have played as it opens up for lots of goal opportunities. That said, it's still a challenging league, not a pushover, I'd probably rate Turkey then about as good as Uruguay is now.

I'd actually look at comparing #1's #2's etc. Italy > Croatia (not by a lot). Brasil >> Denmark, New Zealand = Australia (matches usually decided by the better tactic on the day), Turkey(then) = Uruguay(now).

Actually most of it is entirely down to seeding issues, especially past two campaigns. That's a problem that really should be sorted out, it's a reason Iceland qualified this season, although they beat Canada to get some credibility back for qualifying :).

Concerning your group this time, you really had 18 points off the stick, so although you had Portugal and Estonia, you really only needed a result from 4 matches and you got it. Besides which I've always thought you were a great manager, certainly up there with the best for mine and so often found ways to outplay the opposition and got the results that were fully deserved each time. Hard to think of a time where you won when you didn't deserve to.

On the other hand we really had a given 12 points off the stick, couldn't really give 6 points against Uruguay but in saying that we still really should have won and it was a major let down to be a bit strapped for time and having a bit of a under-par tactic.

Or luck when NZ was the winner!

Yeah maybe, wasn't always luck though, all games except 1 have been within 1 goal. Pleased to say I've got the record for the biggest margin between the sides though ;).

:)

What a week for Andy. Reached 50 assists in the NT and now 100 assists in the club!

Nica header of Maras...

and here are his 2 goals:
Maras 2:0
Maras 5:0

Why the hell he wasn't so good at scoring against Uruguay...

Aha! Thats your problem, i was using water not fire!

I dont agree with your assessment of Italy vs Croatia too =p I think Italy would jump all over Croatia.

Mind you Croatia is good lately. They have 3x unearthly striker.

Guess we agree to disagree then, Croatia's defense is incredibly strong, they only conceded 4 goals all campaign. I honestly predict Croatia will go further in the WC then Italy unless either are forced to play Poland before the other. They're no slouches, so long as their manager continues to put emphasis on the tactical side.

I agree ;))

I predict and in my plan before this season and I sad my community that my plan is semi-final in senior WC and junior.....yes if we meat Poland we are baked but all nations are....

I am surprised that you didnt maked at the end to qualify but I know that Uruguay is much better then the result is showing...

C'mon, beat Poland! :p I need someone to do it...:p it's mainly Raul's fault that Australia is out of WC...

I need someone to do it

maybe België ....yes or Italy....i think that we(croatia) can beat Italy but Poland no...but i think that Italy maybe maybe can beat Poland ;))

We will see. I hope that's the World Cup when we can see a new champion :)
2008-09-08 23:16:33
Well thats a bit contradictory..
2008-09-09 08:21:48
Maybe yes....but this game is not math so that kind of things can happen....
2008-09-09 08:44:23
Yes and no, i'm leaning more toward no atm.

depends, what Ri_cro is saying could work in the sense that one NT is stronger in 1 specific area then the other and also weaker than the other in a different area, in such a way that beating one side is easier for one side then it is for another yet that same side could struggle against another NT. Like paper, scissors, rock for example.

Although in this case the fact would be that Poland > Italy > Croatia in terms of player skills and is why Croatia can beat Italy with a bit of luck and tactical advantage, but is unlikely to ever beat Poland, but Italy can with luck and tactical advantage as the gaps not as large.

Whether or not I'd agree is another thing, I think every side in the top 20 is capable of knocking off any side with luck and strong tactics.
