There's no point in going for a draw, let's win it! ;)
2009-04-18 11:16:11
That is of course the plan ;).
2009-04-18 12:22:41
Commiserations Cometer.

It is cross your fingers time people.
2009-04-18 12:27:14
nah we're out. The odds of Iceland losing to Iran is negative. Physically isn't possible and won't happen.

Very angry at a few of their goals though, particularly 1,3,4.

1st came about from I think Broxton leaving the position marking Boon to form the wall which I didn't want.

4th was stupid, dribbled a divine defender front on then managed to tackle another defender before dribbling a keeper who is close enough to superdivine.

3rd came from a mistake at the back which allowed them to run it across the line.

Defenders weren't supposed to drop back inside the box for free kicks and it annoys me that everytime they decide to drop back regardless of where i put them on the pitch in either of the final squares.

Anyway, just wasn't to be. Didn't anticipate a wide winger but tried to cover it with our strongest defenders in case but they still got around them easily.

Always next time.

i was the one who made that tactic, i replaced langhe because he was on holiday :D
didnt expect you should play with 5 defs, but the bal circulation was great !

so a lovely 5-0 win, me happy :D

grtz

Sounds like violation of sokker rules :p

@cometer
Maybe next time...

Sounds like violation of sokker rules :p

Maybe I should take this further ;). Nah I don't really mind too much, I was hoping for something a little different from that though.

Still dislike goals 1,2 and 4 in particular.

Maybe next time...

Indeed, although it gets annoying when you miss out on goal difference or by 1 pt as has happened the last 3 qualification campaigns. We can't fall over the line.
2009-04-18 16:06:19
Well Australia still lacks some quality players, which will change till next qualifications so I hope that then there won't be such a situation...now it's time to work on the rank.
2009-04-18 19:06:17
I guess it depends on what you consider quality. We've got the defense almost as good as top teams. We're probably 1 super striker short and an extra super midfielder who can tackle. Other than that basically we're not that far off.
2009-04-18 19:10:49
I doubt it...what do you consider as top teams defender? For me its unearthly pace - divine defence, with at least excellent side skills - that's an average top teams def. Better one's are 2x divine[or s-divine] with increbile sideskills - these are top defs...as for mids Willis would've been at best choice nr. 2 in most top 10 teams...and strikers - some teams like Italy, Belgie, Nederland have 3 almost 3x divine strikers...
2009-04-19 16:07:59
well our defs almost satisfy your definition of quality bar a couple of pace levels :p.

The strikeforce is the worry, we've never had a pure classic striker to cause damage. Storey is great when in form but struggles to finish chances, whilst Byers finishes chances but struggles to cause pain to strong opposition defenses.

Midfield is a bit of an issue too, considering Timpano,Baveas,Willis,Broxton aren't getting any younger and we don't have a lot of younger guys getting anywhere near these players just yet.
2009-04-19 16:22:43
Well the mids will keep their level till 32. There's still time for new guys to improve :)

As for strikers, Wirripanda and Maras will be good enough in near time...Maras finishes his striker in ~12 weeks[divine+] and starts technique...

Important notice regarding qualification matches this weekend. For those involved and DO NOT want their players representing the NT, let myself know as soon as possible so I can arrange alternative selections. I'm fine if you want certain players rested as IMO a qualification match is more important than a NT friendly which only has pride and bragging rights on the line. Get in touch if that's the case via skmail preferably.

For U21 players, contact Tigermaster. I don't know what stand point he'll take although I assume it will be something similar if you ask him about it.

Those who don't request players rested shall not complain to me if I then select them and they get injured and unavailable for qualification matches ;).

We are set. Those who have requested their players to be rested have been granted it. We've also got a couple of annoying injuries to some key players, particularly Pottier and Beauchamp.

Very appropriate date for this match too, hopefully we can defeat them even without a few of our guns.

NZ have a few dangerous players but if we can contain them it should go a long way to winning the game.

2 awesome individual efforts to get the result.

I was quite worried at only 2-1 up, but then you obeyed the golden rule of getting a result against New Zealand (playing Kris Hirons) and I knew we were safe. Even with those late fumbles and final save from Ando, I knew we couldn't lose with Hirons on the pitch :P
2009-04-25 12:14:48
Hirons was meant to get on 6min earlier but we didn't have a break in play. Still thought we left a couple of goals out there but we got the win in the end without several big names including: Willis, Beauchamp, Pottier, Cunico and Kohler.

NZ must really hate Hirons playing though ;).
