Asunto: National Team

Well yes I did, that was one such change. Particularly with Byers/Storey unavailable. Although I considered not following the rule because I don't want it broken :p.

With all the young guns running around I'm surprised he is still in the mix to be honest. You'd know better than I though, I guess he must just have the right combination of skills to give a different look to some of the other guys.

New Zealand have to win this game to move back into the top 30 teams, so a loss to them today would probably spell the end of their campaign to make the top 30 and grab a number 2 seed.

Shame about that, playing against Eesti was a mistake. Meanwhile other managers have been smarter and play against weaker teams. I have actually lost the belief, that I can get back to top 30. This match is of course extremely important. I shouldn`t be experementing as I do, but tough challenges keep my alive in this game.

:)

Well the only real young gun that's caught and surpassed Hirons at this stage is Maras. Wirrpanda still lacks one particular skill that's essentially crucial, and I suppose Stephenson is past but doesn't seem to perform in a skill that Hirons often demonstrates abillity for.

Hirons is certainly more in the pack nowdays though. There's probably about half a dozen or so at or about the same mark. I'd consider Bowen and Necevski in that group but I often look the other way instead of selecting my players unless they're truly deserving of it to avoid any conflict that I'm biased towards my own side.

Realistically atm we've probably got Maras out the front, followed by a group of Storey,Newhill,Byers,Stephenson and then comes Hirons and the chasing pack.

As far as young strikers coming through, we've got nothing in the U23 range causing any trouble as of yet. Perhaps Alagich could if he received more striker training.

Strikers have been a massive drop off since half of us striker trainers switched/stopped -> (TerjeH,tigerTUFF,Barhilo, yourself, myself). So our top strikers haven't really become to be threatened too often. At the same time we haven't had a lot of quality striker pulls, most have been defenders or midfielders.

Barnes will likely be the next Maras but he's only 19 or so atm. Other strikers probably coming through but still need more time include Drum,Sianidis and potentially Colosimo.

It's just become a log jam for almost every position now. Have a few clear leaders followed by a bunch at the same level.

Is Kearton another Storey-like player? ie 2/3rds of a striker. Value and NTDB-wise he looks like he should be right up there.
2009-08-15 08:58:48
he is, he lacks form and is 2/3 of a player (lacks one of the 3 skills badly and is now getting it but it could be too late for that).

Storey is much more 2.5/3 these days, essentially like Hirons. Both lack the same skill.
2009-08-15 09:00:55
Yeah, I might have to get myself a true A-League quality striker to replace him with some time soon. Sad, but necessary I fear.

Thought we were harshly dealt with there. We lost 2-1 but their 2nd goal was pretty fortunate coming off a fumble from a defender with high amounts of tech.

Once Newhill got sent off our entire chance of scoring took a massive blow. That was the one guy I had running further forward to receive the cross from Willis. At the same time it then opened up Maras for a free header as their defense would drop back.

So copping the red was disgusting really, considering they had a few fouls that should have been red carded, like the penalty for example.

Anyway, we didn't win for whatever reason, it annoys me when divine or higher defenders in divine or better form can't take a single tackle front on, whilst at the other end we can't get a single broken tackle. Hirons changed it somewhat but it is still frustratingly annoying.

Speaking of which though, their strikers got sensationally high marks which is better striker wise than anything we've got at our disposal currently.

Well I'm schocked that Willis played even though he is having a quali game tomorrow...

I thought their AM produced some great balls forward.

It was definitely tough once we went a man down as it made Willis pass backwards a lot and we lost a lot of attacking angles going forward. Still had we not muffed some early chances and if Hirons had headed true, or got his head on a few more 50/50 balls we were right there.

2-1 seemed pretty reasonable to me (especially given the red card).
2009-08-15 14:43:11
Well yeah 2-1 was reasonable, the shot count was fairly level, the possession was level, marks were level, tactics were similar etc. That game could have ended anywhere from a 2 goal win either way and still be considered reasonable. I think the deserved result though when you factor in the shooting chances from both and how the goals were scored, the 1-1 or 2-2 or even 3-3 draw would have been the fairest result.

The inconsistencies are what bugs me, the straight red for Newhill, while Morton gets off without anything and at the other end a penalty without them getting a card. Then the through balls from midfielders who apparently have less passing skills then we do whilst we can't get them (nor have really ever got them, except in rare occasions against much weaker opposition).

For example their 2nd goal came from about 3-4 deflections from tackles followed by a defensive fumble. At the other end instead of them fumbling it was Maras fumbling or cleared with no problem. Occasionally they'd fumble on the wing but it was never in critical situations on the field.

Inconsistencies are what frustrate me and they've been there a long time and I've complained every time and will probably continue to do so :).

Didn't check that you had a quali match. Normally you let me know in advance so I only check the A-League sides. The rest have to notify me. Had you done that I would have rested him. Fortunately he wasn't injured :).

Then I understand :) I though that you knew...:p

anyway, if someone won't be sleeping by then...18 sokker time or so[will update tomorrow] I'm playing my promo to Ekstraklasa game - maybe someone will watch it. :P

Then I understand :) I though that you knew...:p

I knew you were close but I figured since I hadn't heard about resting Willis that you mustn't be in a qualifier. Still I'm relieved no one got injured either. Just realised that Plesa was another that's in a qualifier and got through without injury.

I should have been a little more careful there but everything worked out in the end :).

Willis in Ekstraklasa...:)
