Que?
2006-05-06 16:28:00
I'm asking you about why do you think that slow GK will have problems with long range shots
2006-05-06 16:35:36
If he can't move, he can't stop them. They have more of a problem with long range shots than close range ones because even a slow GK can get himself between the striker and the goal.
2006-05-06 16:36:42
after goal kick they will come back to goal very slowly. So there will be a chance
2006-05-06 16:37:06
That too.
2006-05-06 16:38:49
When all forwards are over penalty box, then every GK/def will go to the ball faster :p

@Sriram
after shot only GK skill matters, pace has nothing to say about it...:p

As always, especially on internet forums where its very hard to convey the tone/expression of what you are saying it pays to be careful with how you express yourself.

I thought the tactic looked well thought out defensively. If you look at how the defense matches up for throw ins when Sweden is in attack I don't think it could have been done better, nice job Sriram.

I haven't looked back at Sweden's games but I'd have a thought a little more width in attack and probably pushing our forwards up a bit may have helped. The lack of technique on our forwards that means that they don't control long passes very well is always going to hurt though.

I tend to agree with Sriram's appraisal though that trying to break through an uber-stacked defense like that is always going to be tough. Maybe running a combination approach in attack might prove more effective? (By which I mean say 1 forward wider, 1 further back for longer shots and 1 pressed up.) I tend to think that asymetrical lineups are probably the way to go as they are harder to predict and defend evenly against.

Trouble is I don't think anyone thought Sweden would create a tactic like that. I thought they'd come out and try and win rather than resign themselves to a draw

borkos, your bitter grapes taste like sweet, sweet wine :)

This is my first visit to the Aussie forums, and at face value, it seems that you are just grumpy because you weren't elected as NT coach. Your posts ARE destructive, as somebody in this thread has said. If you continue to act the way you are now, nobody will listen to you. Your childish behaviour has almost certainly cemented your inability to get even close to being elected as the next NT coach.

Cheers for the props about the defence.

I agree, but the thing is that, as Cloete said, I didn't think they'd create a tactic like that. I thought Dusse would most likely create one that would try to exploit our weaknesses. There has been one prominent throughout, and that's the defensive formation. Like I said after the Turkey game, I thought it was the best defensive line up for us, and bettering it would be hard work. That's why it has been favoured throughout. However, it is narrow, and I thought Sweden would no doubt try to exploit that. Hence the wing-backs. If you notice, they're two of our best midfielders, and not defenders.

I figured it would be safer if I tried to stop the most obvious and dangerous thing the opponents could do, and try to build on it and create a counter-attack.

The forwards were placed after analyzing Sweden's past formations where there always was quite a distance between the DMs and the defenders. I can safely say they would have worked well if the DMs hadn't been brought right back to the defence.

I'll agree, I used to play a three-pronged attack like that till this season, but I didn't want any of our strikers get tackled by a back-rushing DM.

"I thought Dusse would most likely create one that would try to exploit our weaknesses."

I did, but you changed your tactic for the defence so it didn't work..grr. =p

I tought that you would play like you did against Türkiye(well, with a few changes of course), and that's why I choosed to play with this tactic. And honestly, our midfielders really sucks, you probably have 4-5 better that isn't even in the NT..that's also why I didn't choose to play with wingers, they aren't good enough so there is no point.

Well, good luck next few games, a draw against France would be nice. ;)

(btw, the name of our tactic, do you know who that is? ;)

haha Dusse you legend. Ante should be at the World Cup for Aus! He's currently 3rd choice behind Schwarzer and Kalac! :)

He is a great keeper, and play in the best team in sweden, Hammarby. Absolutely the best keeper in the swedish league, too bad that he isn't swedish. =p

Yep...but look, that I gave arguments, and told what was bad in tactic. I wasn't saying "bad tactic, you suck". I've told mistakes in that tactic, and I have right to do that, mr I Will Judge You. :p

I can't agree with that...their defs couldn't get dribbled by our forwards, so I see no point in what are you trying to say...

I figured it would be safer if I tried to stop the most obvious and dangerous thing the opponents could do, and try to build on it and create a counter-attack.

Counter attack when Swedens defs were waiting near penalty box, and our forwards got the ball in half of their half? I don't think it had any chance to work...

@Cloete
Trouble is I don't think anyone thought Sweden would create a tactic like that. I thought they'd come out and try and win rather than resign themselves to a draw

I can't say it was unpredictable, cause Sweden played similiar tactic week before...:p

@Sriram again
Hence the wing-backs. If you notice, they're two of our best midfielders, and not defenders.

Lol...of course they are mids, not defs. But you made them def wingers with no offensive goals...:/
