Thanks!

Another decent win against England. I liked our strikers today, also Erdogan was ripping their midfield apart.

I'm sorry but there will be no game this week.

I failed to agree a friendly before the season and then forgot to do so.

All teams that were left were either too strong, or with too low rating to play against them - loss with a stronger team would make us lose rank points, low win against low rating teams would cost us those points as well, so I've decided that we will have a free week.

Current situation:

29 Argentina 2397.86 vs Lietuva, possible lose
30 Rossiya 2392.47 vs Peru, probably win but Peru has low rank
31 Portugal 2388.30 vs Belarus, same as Rossiya
32 USA 2375.46 vs Danmark, possible lose
33 Australia 2365.41
34 Slovensko 2329.12 vs Sverige, possible lose

Have you guys seen Bowyer's goal today? This game is starting to be ridiculous ;-)
2012-08-05 23:27:59
29 Bosna i Hercegovina 2428.90
30 Slovensko 2398.64
31 Portugal 2398.11
32 Australia 2387.48
33 Sverige 2363.37
34 USA 2303.27

looks decent. we're facing Ireland next week, Portugal is playing against Slovensko, so if we win, we will go to position 31 at least for a week :)

Sorry guys, I just don't get this game anymore.

Giannakopolous and Barnes decided to be funny today and instead of running at the goal when they had free space ahead of them, the preferred to pass the ball back to mids/defs

in general all players liked the idea to pass backwards a lot...eh...

we won't make it to the top32 I guess and even if we do, I don't think that I'll manage to qualify

therefore I won't be taking part in nearest elections, maybe someone else will have more luck and skills for the job...

This game is incredibly stupid and i'm sick of it, they just killed it, it's all pure random on everything, every tackle, every shot, every pass, every decision, you can expect nothing and it has nothing to do with the situation on the field and tactics , it's all worth nothing..

And i say that as the team that won today, the game is just a pain to watch, just hate it!
Well done greg and co!

btw, managers need no skills to be an NT manager anymore, if they can place players in the lineup than it's enough..

Understand where you stand. Hope you decide to change your mind but I respect your decision if you choose to go that way.

I think the match engine isn't as "unpredictable" as what people make out. I haven't had too many dodgy results that I wasn't getting previously apart from a few games against Chelsea. I do think it's a case of finding a new strategy though and it does get a bit frustrating and repetitive when people playing the 5-3-2 which have dominated simply because it was the only way to win are the main ones complaining about the M.E when they continue to play 5-3-2's.

I have a feeling that the match engine is more about the midfield then ever before and I think that's where people have been coming unstuck as they are so use to defend against the threat of wingers and therefore resort to a back 5. The more games I see, the more I notice 5 defender tactics ending on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Problem is from those complaining it does seem like they are unwilling to experiment and find something that works because the game had become easy to read with the 5-3-2, 5-4-1 tactic.

That's not saying all those complaining are because of that but from those I have witnessed a fair number have been use to 5 defender tactics.

The current engine to me reminds me a lot of a very old match engine with exception to the strikers being heavily punished now as opposed to back then when a 1 on 1 almost always ended in a goal.

I don't really think that it's the case in my situation.

I tried to use 451/442 tactics lately and they usually 'doing' worse against similar opponent's tactics than the 532.

Just look at last 2 games - both Scotland and Ireland used almost exact tactics - 4 defs, 2 defwings, 2 central mids, 2 strikers.

Last week we played with 442 and got, well let's be honest, crushed.
Today we used a 532 and the game was very even - and Scotland has a better lineup than Ireland.

Having said that, previously when I used same 442 tactics in two games in row, the gameplay was totally different. Once we had some midfield gameplay, once we had a 'pinball game'.

Last week we played with 442 and got, well let's be honest, crushed.

It's not the 4-4-2 that had us crushed. It's the fact that you left midfield right open by playing the majority of our midfielders on a similar line as our strikers and left our defenders exposed to counter breaks. You can't leave your defenders that much exposed, never could and you still can't.

I can understand if rather than bag the M.E you turn around and realise that hey yeah my way of creating tactics needs a rethink because you've always seemed to play your midfielders so far away from your defenders that it makes for a good beating under this new M.E.

It's all about placement and controlling the midfield, limiting what the opposition can do whilst being able to hold the ball yourself and that creates chances.

Just as I though, this engine is once again 'defend with many players, send long passes' engine

in theory we had a terrible tactic today, in practice we were unstoppable

Hardly. Peru went in with a more defensive setup in the end as their midfielders basically sat on top of their defense giving no width or option to their front men and so naturally we created more chances using the width and the more attacking midfield.

But do you still see any short-pass playmaking that the new engine was supposed to introduce? I don't, it's pinball...

anyway:

29 Slovensko 2402.72
30 Portugal 2402.00
31 Bosna i Hercegovina 2370.82
32 Australia 2357.72
33 USA 2356.49
34 Sverige 2354.74

We will finish in place 29-34, hard to say which one it will be.

I'd say it would be best to play it safe and go up against weak teams to get the win points rather than go for the big name win. But I'm not sure if our friendlies have already been organised or not yet

I can't say my games have been pinball too often. I've had some very nice build ups and although it's still far from what I'd expect a build up to be (i.e lobs over a player, or quick 1-2's to get past the midfield) I haven't seen too much in the form of long kick upfield, turnover, long kick back, turnover etc.

M.E is far from perfect but it's never been perfect. The last M.E was pretty static and it was so horribly predictable that games weren't that exciting as you knew who would win. At least this way, a weaker side feels they have a chance (even if they don't).

Australia is down to 59 users. Never been so bad before...

That is bad. I would hate to see a count of the number of youth schools.
