Asunto: National Team
Disaster... our best midfielder Craig Butera has picked up a 30day injury playing for his club midweek. He will miss today's friendly, and then the next three World Cup qualifiers.
Australia 6-1 Perú
A spanking win in a friendly against a side ranked eight places above us. We possibly deserved another couple of goals, but let’s not complain. Successfully picked the tactic they were going to play and dominated territory. Four games undefeated now, a bit of momentum.

World Cup Qualifiers Round 3
Slovenija 6-0 as-Saʻūdiyya
Polska 6-0 Belarus
Australia 2-4 Uruguay
What a tease that game was! We came up against the second seed in the group (ranked 15th in the world) and against all odds had a 2-0 lead with less than 30mins to play. In the end we couldn't hold them out. A two goal loss is a reasonable result against a side that strong and will help our goal difference in the aim for a third place group finish.
Round 4
Uruguay - as-Saʻūdiyya
Belarus - Slovenija
Polska - Australia
We play the Sokker giants Poland! Let's be honest, the chance of a win or a draw is so remote here the tactic will either be something wacky to spring a surprise, or a damage limitation tactic to protect goal difference... place your bets!!

Polska 4-0 Australia
A fine performance against the Polish giants. We did manage 6 shots so would've been nice to sneak a goal in but I'll take it. We hold onto third spot in the group.

Decent result against Poland. Nice one
Although I was surprised that there was only a 3pt rating difference between the two teams.
Also we drop to 4th as Belarus won. And we play them next week. Will be a tough game.

Ah yes, you are correct. We are 4th. Belarus are better than their ranking suggests so it will be tricky, although in saying that, we played them in a friendly a month ago and we won 5-0.
After my emulation of Nostradamus & 0-4 predicted score....
....3-1 win coming up....
...& probably end of my 100% record. :)

World Cup Qualifiers Round 5
as-Saʻūdiyya 0-6 Polska
Australia 7-3 Belarus
Slovenija 3-0 Uruguay
The job was to win this one, and we did. In saying that, it was nervous times as they dominated us for the first 20mins with a tactic I didn't plan for and went 2-0 up. With our two best midfielders on the sidelines it was hard to get possession, but we worked our way back in to the match and took our chances. The Alagich brothers playing up front were excellent and their tight central positioning proved a winner.
Goals:
3 R Alagich
2 T Alagich
2 N Brooks (sub)
In terms of the group, we move into 3rd with a tidy goal difference. A HUGE upset with the underperforming 3rd seed Slovenia getting up over the very strong second seed Uruguay 3-0. What does this mean for us? Firstly, it makes competition for my targeted finishing spot of third more competitive... But secondly, it re-opens the closed door of second place in the group. Just a dream, but possible.

This week we take a break from the World Cup Qualifiers and play a friendly against Hayastan who are ranked eight spots higher than us. We last played Hayastan in a friendly in the middle of last season and it came out as a very evenly matched 3-3 draw.
Damnit, and down goes our #1 gun striker with an injury in his club game. That's now six players in the squad injured, including our best striker and best midfielder. Depth will be tested in the next two matches!
It's the following weeks that count...this week can slide in the grander scheme of things (?).
Yeah I'll most likely rest our best 11 and deal with whatever the result is.
