There are certain elements such as game updates & other events that should be front page news....& most other games will have something like this, with updates & direction. My Club page & Start page don't have anything like this.

Having to troll through forum posts for hidden or unknown information comes across as somewhat protective & has a certain "it's fine if you know where to look" feel about it.

Knowing how each skill set works for positions should be part & parcel of the game manual. If there are hidden aspects, they should remain hidden to all.

if I go idle.....my YS will keep ticking over, so for the NT sake, it wouldn't suffer too much.

No going Idle :) You are our premier Defender trainer at present (although who knows, you may choose to go to Striker or MID)

Exactly, stay with us. I can give some jobs to keep you busy, if you want. There's always plenty to do in the NT :P

It's not needing to keep busy....it's the opposite. :)

Whilst I'm not labelling it as acceptable, sometimes translation of rules gets missed and they use the wrong wording for something. Not sure if the process is the same but it use to be translated to 2nd language English from Polish originally and so usually we were already missing information from the get go to translate from. I guess that only comes into play if the Polish rules specifically state what these skills do that Vampyr has mentioned. If they don't and they align with the English translations then yeah it's clearly one of those hidden things we got excluded from.

I have no issue with hidden secrets being discussed and kept to a particular forum if it is the players who are making these without knowing whether they are correct or not, because it's speculation. When devs get involved and discuss things they know to be factually accurate, that's when I think it needs to be discussed everywhere or for devs to stay out of that kind of discussion in the first place.

I am here, stand on corner, sad watching this match vs. Italy.
I understand you using 4 defs, is'nt a totally bad idea, to don't stay so close to proper goalie with 5-7 players, trying to keep opponent away and to get some chances for our construction and counter attacks , but not in this way!
First of all you used our defs very much on middle and Hammond(probably winger) was also keeped totally out of game, this created to Franciotti more spaces, he was leaved a lot of time free on his side.
Then, after we got the red card, i just wondered on how you don't makes the absolute obligatory order to make a step back of one from our 2 defending midfielders(Lohy or Nicole) on Bailey's position to try stopping same Franciotti.
No, i don't think so, we had chances to beat Italy, but could it be much close the result of the game.I know, it's easyer talking from out side, anyone could make faults, no one's perfect important to get my observations as a help, not as a combat.Try more tactics and don't close our defs on middle and winger too high lonely, keep them more spaces to move...and you'll see, will be better.

The same issue today. I played a little higher and still, the defs lost lots of balls to Andorra's strikers. At least it didn't happen right in front of the gk and ended up with a shot immediately.
I scouted their last 5 games and it always looked the same - starting 532, then switch at 65'+ to 5212-wing with the condition 'drawing or losing'. Looked like very easy to read, so I prepared a set 2 tactics. The 1st one you saw, to create plenty of space for our mids and strikers, and fill them into the gaps. The 2nd tactic, ready to be used on 65'+ when drawing or winning, was to stop the winger and prevent him from getting passes.
Well, it seemed easy just until today's match. Unfortunately, their coach decided to break the pattern and play that winger from the very start.
The tactic didn't really look bad, a couple of nice thru passes and lots of space for our mids. The strikers disappointed me a little as they looked like lacking pace and tech to Andorra's defenders. Dunno the reason, they're almost maxed up on all 3 crucial skills and in high form, so should've won at least several one on ones and headers.

Not sure what 5 matches you saw (or did you only look at the report?) but only 2 matches back against Austria they used a winger on the right side. I think you may have under analysed what they would do without thinking enough about why they played the way they did and you basically lost a rock paper scissors game without realising it. You are correct they commonly resort to a back 5 with 3 dm's making it play like an 8 man backline and they press first half and then drop back and play deep the 2nd half at some point depending on the score (I mean it might be just at a set time rather than score, haven't seen a game where they were behind and swapped).

Here's the catch I don't think you saw. Why did they play a winger against Austria, ourselves but not Hungary? Was it just to alternate between matches to catch people just scouting the last tactic? Maybe. I'd like to think from what I saw (which again wasn't much as I've really just gone looking for why we didn't cover the winger), that their tactic was modified to what the opposition team does. That being, if 5 defenders are played, they didn't use a winger. If 4 defenders were played then they would use a winger.

The tactical battle isn't simply what they did. The tactical battle is trying to understand why they did what they did. You win that battle, you win the tactic match up. Sometimes that backfires if they are thinking in a similar way but often people don't think too hard. It's why you can never have enough time dedicated to scouting. Every game says something about how they think. When you find a pattern that seems to stick, scout a little more and see if it still holds up. Then you're ready.

In any case, the defenders didn't really stuff up that much. They probably don't have the passing and pm to break that defensive press wall down and you more or less had our midfielders in amongst that mess. Our defenders saw no options up field so either held onto the ball waiting for something (e.g lowish pm) or saw that another of our defenders were free and passed to them.

I think you had a few issues here. 1) The defenders played way too far up field given the opposition pressed and played a winger. That's really what cost us.
2) Your midfield was too far forward and got caught up in the offside trap/press. They were clearly placed to only focus on offense and couldn't do that the first half due to being stuck in a wall of players. When we did get that press going backwards the mids started to do a bit more but again a turnover on attack and we got exposed on the counter.
3) The tactic switch from Andorra to drop deep, should have resulted in our strikers playing far further forward. You played into their hands by not taking advantage of that. Ideally that's when you may have been able to press but take care of the winger.

That's really the difference I think.

All that being said, it was probably a better effort than last week against Italy. I think there are improvements that can be made with a little bit more thought and time though.

Believe me, I'm putting a real effort here and using all my knowledge gained thru all the 14 years I've spent on sokker. Took me 3 days to analyze Andorra and it didn't came out very well.

Now we have a new match view, especially the top view,
that should help making tactics and improve scouting. Here you have an example of what can be done to make the process of scouting more precise:

I encourage everyone to work with the tool.

Edit: to be clear - the lines aren't included in the viewer. They were put manually in paint to reflect the tactic editor areas.

This is going to take some getting used too.

And we can definitely see some development in your tactics compared to the first week or even when I played you last season. Hopefully we can help you become a better tactician if nothing else.

And don't worry, I was lucky, I got to cop this from cometer in person or via messenger in the past :D But I'd give it back to him just as hard which I think made us both much better managers and tacticians because of it.
Sometimes even when you scout, place and correctly understand how the tactic editor comes across in match play, the players still end up out of position or playing like they had never seen a soccer ball before, the main thing is that over the long term, you generally beat the weaker teams, and generally put up a good fight against those rated higher. And this can be a lot easier to do in the larger countries where the skills are more consistent, compared with the little countries who go through ups and downs with amazing players then rubbish....trust me....its even more noticeable in the U21 scene (which I know you were part of previously too).

Cheers for the kind words and the support. Criticism is always welcomed as I'm pretty ambitious and not the kind of a give up person :)
Will work hard to make things right, especially with the Asian Cup ahead.

Yeah, please don't take my statements as attacks against you personally, they're not intended to be. When it comes to Sokker I'm critical on everyone as has been mentioned (even myself). I have high expectations when it comes to Sokker especially and criticise areas where I think are areas that can be quick improvements (or should have already been known about). All of this is from hindsight. I don't get to see what happens prior to the game, and my views reflect as such. A spade is a spade for me, if something goes really well, you'll get that recognition from myself as well.
