I can already tell you that he sucked in one situation, just after coming to the field ;)
2007-01-13 22:07:50
even the best strikers have their bad moments :)

Of course. Generally my fault was placing of nr 8[Terminello/Vidmar] - he wasn't used for most time. If I used him as a DM then it would be a better idea. :)

Next week will be a game versus Ireland, with first team.

And then we'll play against Mexicoin U19 game.

So I'm waiting for updates of U19 players. :)

I don't think the right-most forward gets enough use in this formation. Maybe you could have them run wider (to the right) in the middle of the pitch and only move to the center in (or near) the box?

If anything Croxall is probably better suited to that sort role where he can be provider occasionally.

Hirons is having a pretty rough season :(

I've played like that, though to the left, with Ecuador.

This time it was against Scotland - look how great defense do they have :(. I've thought that Croxall may pass the ball with his head to Richter, and in the second half even if Croxall gets tackled, fast Byers will tackle him. Unfortunately it didn't worked.

I hoped also for many through passes from Broxton and Widera, unfortunately they didn't tried them too many times.

No doubt that their defense was very good. Byers never had much of a chance to tackle as they seem to be kicking the ball away from our forwards almost before they've completed the tackle!

ok i've seen the match now and i have to say that the striker tactic used was shocking.. you should never place strikers that close together. Also they were switching sides frequently, reminds me of the time i forgot to complete my tactic after switching the sides of the more offensive striker!

On Byers' performance, he basically blew one opportunity, a small opportunity at that. There wasn't much space to shoot and he evaded the first tackle only to get tackled again straight away. All other instances he had the ball he was closed down almost immediately so he had no space to perform.

Other than that, i must say Aus were lucky not to lose by more :P

AS I've said - I've hoped for a big cooperation of forwards, but it didn't worked.

I was of course joking about Byers, it wasn't a clear situation :).

I don't think so - Scotland had mainly shots from long range, especially made by winger.
2007-01-14 11:38:30
i didn't think that Scotland made any shots ;)

playing two forwards close together it basically like only having 1 up front.. they very rarely assist each other
2007-01-14 11:46:37
Hm...not at all - sometimes it's a good idea. In my club it sometimes works like that, the 1st att looses the ball, but the 2nd tackles the def and has free space to run and shoot.

And they weren't naer each other all the time - for example the goals was when Croxall was on the left side of penalty area.
2007-01-14 12:04:21
yeah i know, but that just brings the crossover effect into play.

One of the freekicks i saw had both of the forwards standing right next to each other in the box, thats just a waste.. Mind you he went for goal anyway and missed by a mile :P

the odd occasion that it might work for your team is just a fluke i reckon. Are both your strikers of around the same skill?

Nah, the one with defence is faster, though he has worse technique

It works if you can slot both strikers in a hole in the defence. Otherwise it's a near certainty that the defender will be able to clear the ball. I'm not against the tactic as long as the strikers are placed in a hole. Otherwise it's best to give them some room when the ball is coming in... THEN cram them together in the box.

if there is 4 defenders you can pretty much guarantee the hole would be sewn up quickly.
