Asunto: State Cup - S13 - Registration

To all participants:

It has been an extremely difficult task to coordinate the cup this year and we're reaching a point where I need to make the calls. I am still looking for a team to fill that hole in the WA state Team. I also have checked every single entry and have serious doubt about 2 more teams that havent logged for a while.
I have contacted the NZ team and posted the following topic on the 4 DivII forums as well as the 16 DivIII forums in Australia in order to save the competition...

The State Cup is looking for one team ahead of the week8 competition kick off to fill the gap in the WA team.

State Cup format:
- 6 states of 5 teams battles for the cup
- Round robin of 5 games (vs one team of each states, friendly league format)
- finals (5th place game, 1/2s then 3rd place and grand final)
- Cup starts Week8 and finishes Week14


If in the next two days we fail to reach the right number of participants I suggest we can the cup for this season and try again next season. In order not to let anyone down with friendly and training I would require 3 hosts to setup 4 friendly leagues of 8 teams to compensate (free to accept foreign teams). While these 4 leagues would count only towards training and friendlies, it is in my eyes one way of compensating for the possible failure...

Now, obviously my wish is to find the teams missing so we can get underway... fingers's crossed!

Well I still have plus and am still willing to host a friendly league, so if Cloete doesn't come to the party I can fill in there.

Could we not do a second round of expressions of interest to see who is actually active. Then run the 1 or 2 friendly leagues that we can get together in a short period of time?

Whilst I agree that it'd be great if everyone who signed up over the past 10-12 weeks was still ready to go, but I must admit I don't think its all that likely.

Agreed. Remembering that friendly leagues will have to be activated by Sunday.

I'll see what happen after the rush in logins created by the training and youth pull day but I'll definately advise to start looking at the option you've mentioned! it's not looking good for the state cup...

So is this going to be scrapped? I'll need to know if i need to organise friendlies.

While there are some excuses available I'm not going to hide behind it so
I would like to apologise for failing to organise the second edition of the State Cup...

There is no way I'm gonna find the missing teams, do the draw, and get everyone to sign in in their respective friendly leagues before sunday's deadline... plus I'm not ready to use the same system as last year where I spent my time chasing people left right and centre to make this thing work (hence the previous apology I guess!).

I suggest the active and state cup interested people to sign in the available friendly leagues (comets, Vivski, mine) to compensate a bit...

If we were to try again next season, I'd like some constructive feedback again (although getting people's interest closer to the deadline is probably wiser) as well as the help of someone to run the thing (Vivski?) as life is getting fairly busy on this side of the planet...

That's ok mate, you definitely tried and you put a heap of work into getting it up and running.

Unfortunately there are two sides, the organsor and the teams, and not all teams rose to the task.

There are always future seasons and thanks for giving it a crack

So sorry this didnt get going guys, people put in a heap of work into this....and the activation of a long-lost friendly league put a spanner in the works.

I think next season people who enter should check to see if they are in a friendly league (like I was!) and leave all their friendly leagues if they enter the state cup. I will put my hand up as one of these people, as i am in a friendly leage i entered in my first couple of days in Sokker, only to see it become active in my 4th season!

Wasn't to be expected so it's hard to know things like that, was just one of those things that happens but at the end of the day you learn something you didn't know before :).

Don't worry Minkee - we appreciate your efforts greatly, things just happened out of your control.

Maybe next time, the search for teams should only begin 1-2 weeks before the cup final, that way, hopefully nobody would have become inactive.

Don't worry Minkee, it was a mammoth task to undertake. The more users you get involved, the bigger the stone you have to drag. The State Cup will be back. It's a good concept, but it's something you can't manufacture support for... it has to gain its own momentum.
