Asunto: S13 - Australia Cup

2008-07-02 19:03:12
Haha oh no, taking the win with a penalty kick

That 89th minute...I'm surprised you didn't throw the computer out the window...good to see you came up with the goods in the end, it was a great defensive effort

Although the Aus cup is heating up, It isn't the same quality teams left that there are normally by the 6th round, so still no real need to worry too much.

4 quality A-League teams, 2 quality div 2 teams, and two div 2 teams who are pretty decent and I hope continue to improve, but I wouldn't call them a huge threat yet. But it may be the under-estimating that gets me knocked out of the cup, because its hard to get excited when I still feel I should make it to the next round (given I don't draw one team in particular...then I may have to re-work a tactic, and put some decent subs on the bench).

Anyway congrats to the four underdogs, you did a great job in knocking off the higher teams, and I look forward to playing one of you next week

No worries. It generally sums up the last few seasons for me. If it is a close game I've got no chance at all. Haven't seen the game but red card and injury made it hard, but dissapointing that my good players didn't do any better.

So good luck in the cup for you :)

That 89th minute play would have made my day had it happened in my match. Would have topped off a fabulous day at the shooting range and then I could well have said I was cursed :p.

Was a good game to watch, the opening goal of the match was an absolute cracker of a free kick, followed by a solid blue wall which never seemed to give up and just kept pestering those in yellow.

All the best left for the cup for those who are left. Still puzzled by my exit, although 5th rounds really haven't been too kind to me over the past 5 seasons.

I've got to say that I'm really impressed with that tactic vivski.

3-4-1-2

One of the defensive mids comes up to help out the attack for set pieces or if the ball goes wide.
Your wide strikers come in when the ball is on the other wing.
Both strikers on the same wing for a quick counter when ball is deep in your defense.
Throw-ins in attacking regions was a mid, throwing-in to a mid with both strikers in the center.
The 3-4 at the back got a bit chaotic at times but when the 4 DM's compressed back none of their strikers had room or time to do much at all.

Not saying its flawless or anything, but tons of great ideas in there. Probably the best executed complex tactic I've seen.

Looks like ive drawn another team that destroyed an A-League side, I wonder when this will stop

LMAO... now I'm boned. :p
My only reprieve is that TBF can probably afford to play trainees and save the big-guns for Tigers.

Firstly, really sorry to see PRT is no longer. I hope this isn't the end for TerjeH in SK. Mate, I hope you stay on in some form 'cos you're still a major part of the Aussie community here.

Thanks for the comment naph, means a lot coming from such an accomplished manager.
There are a couple of other little gems in there which saved my bacon, including one thing I haven't tried before and will definitely use again in the right situation. There were a couple of mistakes and there will always be flaws, but on the whole I'm very satisfied.

In reality, the tactic I set up was highly tuned to the tactic I knew TerjeH was likely to use. Had things panned out differently, my goalie would be used for target practice. As it was, I was able to send my strikers gallivanting up the wings wasting time. :p

@Achmid, I'll take a penalty goal 'cos it's about the 10th penalty my team has ever converted in SK. ;-)

Anyway, thanks for the kind words guys. I appreciate it.

Best of luck to those with half a chance of winning this round.
I'm guessing the favourites will proceed, setting up some intriguing semis.

Haha - How did i know i was going to get my old rival in RG =) Back to the II.04 Rivalries. Will be an interesting round

Well after watching the match, I though the penalty goal was fair, that 89th-90th minute miss was abysmal.

It's also good to see another team making it up the ranks with tactics, although I have not been making too many interesting ones outside of the NT (with cometers help) I also haven't found I've needed too.

I hope that you find yourself in A-League soon, because I would love to have a tactical battle with yourself, and was actually hoping I would come up against you this round in the Aus cup.

Certainly appears that way. Have had a lot of great matches over the seasons/years, including the cup final I lost and the cup semi I won the season before as well as a few crackers in the A League. PRT will still go down as one of the great teams with 2 Australian Cup titles and an A League title. Not only that but as vivski has said, has been a major part of the community here over the seasons and well if this is to be the end (which I hope won't be the final end) I'd like to put in my 5 cents worth and thank TerjeH for the time that was put in and to wish the best for whatever happens next.

haha just realised that im pretty much playing my whole Div2 League again! SG, TT and now RG all in consecutive weeks! Not complaining - Pretty confident that I can win the match this week.

Also disappointing to see PRT go. Only taken them on in the Cup and in friendlies and i think the score was 1-1 in the cup. Good luck with whatever you decide to do TerjeH, great to have had you part of the Australian community.

You've also got me on the weekend for more ex-II.4 action.

I might be wrong, but I don't think TerjeH ever quite felt the same about the game after he sold Amien.
2008-07-05 19:52:29
yeh but this aint cup action... maybe next week.. but certainly not this week.. Looking forward to tomorrow's game... wont be home for it but i might/might not have a new tactic for you Naph ;) so what will you do :P
2008-07-06 02:44:44
What will he do? He will smash you :P
2008-07-06 08:29:27
Haha, all that talk for nothing, didn't even play his 1st's. Must be concentrating on the cup I presume :p.
