Asunto: Competition Season 13

2008-06-10 11:01:02
cometer [del] para Todos
The other competition will still be played out in week 4, however, starting a newer competition for later in this season. Starts this week.

Idea basically taken from a thing Seca did managing Canada, have come up with something similar but hopefully improved, but yeah we'll see how we go.

The idea is to pick a player from each of the following groups to act as a fantasy team for the season. Each player has a specific value to prevent everyone from selecting all the best players and to open up a bit of variety through the form of a salary cap. The salary cap is currently at 85

You can't have the same player more than once in a side either

Basically you then score points based on how each player performs each week for the NT, and the points system will be listed below.

You need to select a captain each week, although you can't change your squad at any stage but each player may only be a captain a maximum of 3 times during the competition The captain scores double points.

Anyway the point system is as follows and is perhaps a little confusing for some but hopefully I've simplified it enough to make sense.

POINT SYSTEM

Everyone
Cap - 1 point
Win - 1 point
Goal - 4 points
Assist (to the actual assister, not necessarily to the player who the M.E credits) - 4 points
Missed penalty kick - -4 points
Own goal - -4 points to the player who scores the goal.
Shot on target - 2 points
Shot off target - 1 point
Successful tackle with the tackler winning the ball outside penalty area - 2 points
Tackle made with the tackler winning the ball and is inside defensive penalty area - 4 points
Accurate pass (Excluding kickoffs but can be back passes if they go straight to the player) The points don't get awarded in the case of an offside play but free kicks can still count. - 2 points
Accurate header (the case where a pass is made by head to another player in the team) - 1 point.
Foul - -2 points
Yellow Card - -3 points
Red Card - -5 points

(Defs and keeper)

Clean Sheet - 5 points
Less than 10 shots in a game - 3 points
Opposition shotless - 5 points

(Midfielders and strikers only)

5+ goals in a game (team total) - 5 points
10+ goals in a game (team total) - 8 points
More than 20 shots in a game - 3 points

(Keepers only)
Clean save - 3 points
Fumbled save - 2 points
Penalty kick saved (either through them missing, or keeper saving) - 5 points

Any clarifications, please don't hesitate to ask. Post below contains the groups to choose from and the post under that I'll keep for listing everyone's squad.

Edit: You do not score double points for certain things. For example a shot on target turning into a goal, only goes down as a goal (4 points) not a shot on target + a goal (6 points). In these situations you get the higher (be that good or bad) score from the outcomes. So a yellow card followed by a 2nd yellow card would imply you get the score for a red card, rather than 2 yellows and a red.

Pick one player from each group. You have 85 points to use and you can't use more than that. Choose carefully.
Also each player can only be selected once, you can't have Maras twice for example.

Sounds like a very good idea, but sounds rather time-consuming for the person calculating the points ;)

Question - what about the U-21 and 2nd XI games? Will they count?

Edit question - will you be able to choose more than 11 players? (i.e subs)
(editado)

think most of the questions are solved in the selection of players. You'll get 9 players - 1 Striker,2 Mids,2 Defs, 1 Gk, 2 U21's, 1 local talent below A league.

Thus there are no subs and you can only select 9 and it's designed in such a way that it's pretty hard to get both Byers and Willis for example without weakening the squad.

Also U21's become hard as there might be others that play instead due to faster progress, or simply went underneath the radar for a while. Everyone has the same to select from so that shouldn't matter too much.

All games will count, that including 1st team, 2nd team, U21's, competition games etc. Don't know the closing date of this yet but it's likely to end around week 12 I think. Players who don't play receive 0 points as well.

Have fun calculating the points but its a fantastic idea. Hopefully the points is a nice medium between having a couple of nice players and some risks
2008-06-10 12:56:48
Great idea! I'd be happy to help out with some calculations. Shouldn't be too hard to tally the shots, tackles and passes if you have a teamsheet infront of you while watching the game.
2008-06-10 13:35:28
Just a couple of events I'm curious on.

Defender A makes a tackle (outside box) and the ball bobbles forward and is cleared by Defender B .... Any points?
Defender A makes a tackle (inside box), the ball bobbles forwards and is picked up by Keeper B ... Any points?

Striker A kicks off an accurate pass to striker B, who kicks accurately backwards to defender C, who kicks inaccurately back past Keeper D for an own goal.... Any points? (penalties?)

No points for successfully dribbling a player? (I guess its more important what you do afterwards)

No points for winning a corner? (Striker A, gets tackled, ball goes over goal-line for a corner)
2008-06-10 13:56:40
Well the first two, I'd consider semi-successful, so I'll probably further clarify successful tackle to be "and in the same motion that player wins the ball", so I'd be inclined to suggest no points for the first two cases.

Third case, seems like Moldova :p. Guess you'd get the points for B passing to C for an accurate pass even though it went backwards, unless it went back behind the defenders and made them turn around to chase it. The kickoff should be excluded, as I haven't seen an inaccurate kickoff yet. Might include own goals as a deduction, in which case if the keeper fumbles it for a goal the keeper gets deducted, otherwise the other player gets deducted. I'd hope that won't be necessary for our side though.

I initially had dribbling a player as points, but was one of the cuts I made to simplify the scoring system. It was originally worth 2 points itself, might put that back in, I'll have a think about that case again but if it was added again it would likely only be worth 1 point since I dropped the points for a few other things like caps, wins, scoring a goal etc.

Didn't plan on getting points for a corner. Had points for a corner kick successfully in the penalty box and deducted points for kicking it directly out from a corner, but as with dribbling I took it out to simplify the calculations. If people want that back in I'll consider putting it back though.

yeah, if you know what you're looking for, you could get through it in one viewing, although I'd probably watch it live without worrying too much then watch it a 2nd time and be able to stop and pause if the action gets too intense to keep up.

Would be happy to have scoring assistance if you're happy to help out.

Tried not to have it biased towards a particular type of player though, by including lots of different things for the other positions to pick up on and by grouping players into like types. Then to compensate the fact some players will obviously get more game time then others and the fact they tend to generate better statistics the salary system was introduced. Time will tell though but I think this opens it up for more variety in team selections. Otherwise it would be Byers,Willis,Ando in almost every side.

I don't really mind what you do and don't score points for as long as its consistent.

One other thing is the case of "dodgy" assists. Are you going to award those as they should be, or as the match engine awards them?

eg Midfielder A passes to Striker B, who shoots, the ball is deflected by the opposing keeper and Striker C heads it in.

Sometimes the match engine will assign the assist to Midfielder A, when it should really be Striker B.
2008-06-10 15:20:28
Yeah I agree, consistency is the most important thing, it's why I appreciate all these different situations as it makes it much clearer as to what counts and what doesn't.

I'd be counting them as they should be so striker B in your case would get credited with the assist even though the engine may award it incorrectly to midfielder A.

yep it checks out. Might add, you can switch and change up until the updates on Saturday. From then on, you're stuck with the squad for the season. Remember to state your captain each week and each player can only be captain for a maximum of 2 games, so choose wisely.

If you do change, either delete your post or edit your original post as I'll be keeping tabs on what players are selected come Saturday anyway.
