Played a friendly cup game this week, and witnessed two things that really blew me away and ticked me a tad to be honest.

The first and please correct me if I'm wrong here. Each time the ball got around 1/3rd of the way into my half the centre forward of the opposition camped himself inside my goal square right alongside the goalie and behind my most back defenders. Consequently on several occasions the ball would be passed, clear the defenders for an easy goal. As I said I may be completely wrong, but does this not constitute an off-side?

Secondly and this is the one that had me verging on angry, but atleast it didn't result in a goal. The same opposition forward scores a goal and starts trundling off back to his half for the kick off. My teams reset in position and kicks off. Opposition forward seems to have been a bit slow on his feet getting back to his own half, lucky for him the kick off goes just about straight to him, and he heads off for my goal.

Fact is overall I did get beat by a better team, no question, but it sure makes it even harder with stuff like this going on.

Yeah the 2nd case, is a bit unfortunate, has happened to others before in that they kickoff and the other player never actually retreats quick enough and ends up in a position where they get the ball. (That's without viewing the match).

The first I'll take a look at, most likely its either a) a compression issue or b) he's running through as the ball is passed then continues to run but I'll take a closer look.

Want to give some minutes of the game where their player was behind your last defender? Everything seems fine from here except for that 2nd case with the interception at the kickoff which came about because the player was so slow anyway (still doesn't mean it should happen :p).

52nd minute was touch and go, but 73rd seemed a bit more clearer.

52nd minute looks to be a compression issue, so on the viewer it looked offside but it was actually onside in the match generator (which is what counts). Nothing wrong here other than to note the viewer isn't 100% accurate on where players actually are on the pitch.

73rd was fine. He was in behind the middle defender, but when the ball was passed he was in line with your right side defender and thus was in an onside position :).

I 2nd that. Looks okay to me. You can play your defs a bit higher to keep the strikers away from goal.

Thanks for having a look guys. You know, I was never going to win the game anyway really, and after watching it a couple more times I'm tending to agree with you. They only need be 'just' on side for it to matter.

However grabbing the ball on the way back to getting into position? It didn't alter my games' result, but I'd hate to think a critical result is effected by a lucky pot shot from way out. With for and against being so important for qualifying positions these days, although a small chance of it happenening, it clearly is possible.

has happened before, but really if they're that slow it takes them that long to get back, they're unlikely to get anywhere with the ball before losing the ball anyway. Still doesn't justify it not being corrected but at least it's something minor rather than major.

As a suggestion I'd be looking at fixing your defensive line tactically, you're conceding a fair few goals which could be stopped with a flat back line, rather than an awkward defensive line you've currently got which allows a lot of space for opposition strikers to get through.
