Asunto: Training Pros and Cons

I am interested to start a discussion on the pros and cons of what we are all training ?
Probably the best two points I want to be debated is:
1. What is the best position to train for profitability?
and
2. What is the best position to train for results. (ie: what trainning style ensures good results during the season)

1. Defenders
2. Pace
Defs sell quite high, well trained def = 30M zloty. and basically you might find a guy with decent tech-pass-pm, get 10 of those and train them in pace and def till divine def and brill-mag pace. Lots of money to get.

Disagree here.
1. Midfielders (not only do they get large profit margins in excess of 10-15 million, they also give valuable training skills to other members and can help dictate games. For an example look at how dominant TBF have been in the time training midfielders) Defenders sell for squat these days, absolute squat, only thing that sells for less is goalkeepers. Defenders sell for 6-10million only when they're fully trained up.
2. Pace (Can train 22 players in this position and hence if only 1 skill was trained that would be the best bet)

Def & pace for me too. I've used it to build up my squad. Looking to change to striker training but my most talented youths are both exc. def....plus my 2 most talented early 20yo's are defenders also.
I'm with cometer on training midfielders currently earns the most money. Defenders get to a max of about 12mill if they have divine pace-def combos with excellent tech-play-pass approx age 24-26
Midfielders on the other hand say 5xincred will sell for more like 16mill.
And as far as results in the game, I would say passing would be the best to see results. Get a team full of passers and you will see results. I have before the last ME update seen teams full of defenders do a great job, btu since then passing has dominated.

1) I would say ALL positions (except GK) are just as profitable - you just need to be in the right market area. Quite often you can buy a trainee for a few million, and sell him later for guaranteed profit (under the NT banne, of course).
2) If you are implying the ability to perform optimally in both league and cup, whilst maximising training, it just depends on the strength of your trianees...

1- It changes with times imo... at the moment guys in the AL thinks it's MID because the team dominating the country is strong in that field. In D3 I'd say STR or DEF if you want to make an impact, and I think the ALeaguers have been through this path before (correct me if I'm wrong).
2- Pace, Tech and Pace again :)

I don't think divisions have any impact on what's more profitable, midfielders are clearly the better players to train. The problem is they're probably harder to train as it requires a more talented player, but they'll still sell for miles past what other positions sell for, unless you're super lucky. The other reason I say this, is then they only have to really buy 1-2 strikers, 5 defenders as opposed to say striker training having to purchase 5 defs, 4-5 mids.
In saying that though I agree it changes with time, largely influenced by changes in the match engine. For a while midfielders weren't worth as much as Strikers and Defenders because of the way the match engine functioned. Anyone around during I think season 4 (Australia) should remember the fairly static match engine in which it was possible to just get strong defenders and keep opposition sides out. At the same time, strikers when they got through the defense had fairly impressive conversion rates and that's what kept their prices up.
Once they changed and defenders became less effective, striker prices rose again as suddenly strikers were seen as the biggest influence. (This was about the time the concept of striker training being most effective came in)
Moving along, with the latest change, strikers suddenly miss more often, even from simplest shots whilst the pm/passing changes have suddenly boosted midfielders. Hence you see a rise in demand for midfielders raising their price, whilst striker prices (relatively) have dropped away. Strikers still sell for more absolute terms then they did before (everything has due to inflation largely) but relatively they don't sell for as much when you factor in how many you can train, other positions still needed to be bought etc.
Only reason I was mentioning TBF was to show there are also benefits in terms of winning matches from having a strong midfield, that is true regardless of division. The only thing is, it's a harder task, you really need a high main coach, you need a bit of financial capital to invest in 10 trainees and you need to invest in talented players, and you need to be motivated enough to do train multiple skills and sacrifice cup/friendlies and tactics to some extent to get the best out of it.
For lower divisions striker and defender training works effectively as there are less skills, you don't need to have such high talents as a result, you can get away with a small amount of cash and can focus on 2-3 skills, as opposed to 4-5. Then the chances are the opposition won't have the quality to break down that position and you'll score truckloads or keep a load of clean sheets. However, the profitability still stays with the midfield, just that a new user or user in lower divisions might not have the required funds to kick start their midfield training dominance and either have to settle on untalented players, or focus on fewer players to train.
I've been contemplating for a few seasons now about whether I should be switching into midfield/defender training as striker training is getting me somewhat frustrated as I find I still need to spill out loads of cash to fill my general style of play.

sorry I understood profitability to the team performance instead of profitability to the bank account... :)
I do like your analysis though... very good insight, quite useful for any manager I guess...

Could also be coincidental as well, but that would be my best guess from what I've observed over the seasons. Without proper data and detail of everything that had been happening, I can only make assumptions ;).
i have a defender selling for 1.5kk at the moment after 2 seasons training :)
only thing with defenders is secondaries are what makes the sale.
mids IMO are the hardest train and probably the best in terms of profitability because you switch what you're trainin really often

just a general comment aim at no one in particular...
it kind of make sense MID are going for more money since they need more skills than the others (PM, PACE, TECH and PASS, and maybe DEF for DM)...
DEF and STR do not require that many skills to be efficient players...

for sure but at the same time DEFS need DEF,PACE,TECH,PM also and maybe PASS so there's not a huge difference between MIDS and DEFS yet we still see MIDS sell for truckloads more ;).
So whilst it is true midfielders will make more money, the difference between midfielders and defenders is increased because of the demand for midfielders over defenders, which I believe is largely influenced from the current match engine structure which favours midfielders over defenders.

I'm not at a level where my DEF need that much :)...
I'm happy with DEF, PACE and a bit of TECH to limit the fumbles... I imagine it's a different world up there you're right...

yeah it gets a bit different towards the top but I still look to prioritise in that DEF,PACE,TECH,PM are my basic criteria when purchasing and PASS is looked for but not essential.
At the lower ends, midfielders you can get away with simply PASS,PACE,TECH or PASS,PACE,PM as if you have sufficient technique doesn't matter if you make your decisions slightly slower as you can beat the opposition player (especially in lower divisions), alternatively having high PM means you don't necessary have to beat a player as you can pass before you get tackled. Ideally though, you want all same as with defenders ;).
