Matches have been sorted for next season.

Have chosen a range of different strength countries to test myself against.

Have tried to stick to countries who have a low rating compared to points ratio.

Also have an exhibition match of our U21 vs another teams U20.

(Obligatory first post write up for a new couch)

Firstly thanks for the votes. I received multiple people private messaging me asking to take over the U21 side, even if I had minimal time and didn't get the same luck in results as has been seen of late.

My aims for this season are as follows (and in order);
1. Develop a decent database of players, so we can follow through, and discuss development, primarily for the main NT side, but also for the U21 side.

2. Put the best players on the field, and give trainers the respect they deserve by playing, and increasing the number of caps on identified future Australian players.

3. Minimise the number of potential U21 and NT stars, lost through being fired or bots getting taken over.

4. Hold 4th in the U21 world cup. 3rd would be better, and 2nd would be outstanding. This will be hard to do with the 3rd team (Latvija) having a long term U21 coach who knows his players and tactics for them, as well as having a much bigger userbase.

5. Keep or raise our ranking points. Friendlies for this season have been selected based on maximal rating points with the lowest average mark. This will help reduce points lost during loses, and maximise points gained for wins.

The current stats for the Aus U21 side.

Users: 12
(but realistically, 3 pulling, selling and training, with another 3 pulling but often getting lost in a non-training, non-playing role in their side)
Rank: 50
Rank points: 1587.30
- this always takes a hit in WC seasons
Number of players: 38
Average form: excellent
Average age: 19.9
Average value: 518 811 AU$
Total value: 19 714 800 AU$

As you can see, the number of players has doubled since I took over. This is in line with some of the goals above.

Once again, thanks for the votes and confidence. I will unfortunately be Missing in Action for a lot of the first half of the season due to real life commitments, but the database has come forward a long way in a short time with the following stats.

35 players skills up to date as of October
2 additional players within 3 months
2 within the last 6 months (actually 4 months, but I colour code so within 6 months is where they fall)
2 within 9 months
2 within 12 months

Only missing 3 players who are likely to have a chance of playing for the U21 NT any time soon.

There are currently 174 youths in the Database. Over 50% of these are in BOT teams, and this number will rise as I continue to check more teams, but have been registered to determine whether they need to be "saved" from being deleted.

U21 World Cup

So for my first season of taking over the U21 National Team, I will be doing so in a World Cup.

As far as our draw goes, it isn't the worst draw in the world for us.

1. België U21 - 178 users, Ranked 16, Points 2687, Rating 53.1 - Over-performer (good for points)
2. España U21 - 254 users, Ranked 25, Points 2397, Rating 55.7 - Under-performer (bad for points)
3. Latvija U21 - 22 users, Ranked 48, Points 1696, Rating 43.3 - Over-performer (good for points)
4. Australia U21 - 12 users, Ranked 52, Points 1547, Rating 42.8 - Over-performer (makes it difficult to go up)
5. Honduras U21 - 10 users, Ranked 78, Points 726, Rating 45.2 - Under-performer (very bad for us)
6. Ghana U21 - 4 users, Ranked 89, Points 213, Rating 31.5 - Over performer (good for us, but we need to win by a lot)

What I expect from this season is a pretty close tussle between 3rd and 5th, with everyone rating around the same, although us with the lowest. It will also be bad for our points as Honduras is very strong, but has minimal points.

Our first match is Latvia which is probably our biggest match of the season. Unfortunately is also my first match taking over the team
What this means is I will be relying on last matches tactic made by Jurro, to beat Latvia as it has been successful with our line up. Based on how that goes, I will contemplate changing it a little (should we win) or complete overhaul if it fails.

It has also been a nervous wait to see if our number 1 midfielder got over his slight injury which thankfully he did, however we have lost Boustianis for this match which hurts a little. Worthy also has a red card, so will be out today.
We also welcome 4 debutantes to the 16-man lineup.

As always any comments or questions can be directed here, or via sk-mail. I expect very little, but I'm sure people will enjoy reading a small write up.

Aus vs Latvija - recap

Unfortunately lady luck was not shiny upon us today.

Straight off the buzzer, Latvija were gifted a perfect scoring opportunity, which didn't present itself the entire game afterwards. We then lose our defensive mid fielder in the 31st minute which messed up our sub orders.

Despite this, going in the HT, we are equal 1:1.

Latvija attempt a tactic change, which was actually worse than their first tactic, however they slot a goal which our goalie really should have stopped given his skills, the distance, and how slow the shot was.

After this, our striker has 2 one on one opportunities with their GK, first one hitting the crossbar and the second one getting blocked.

Although lady luck didn't want to give us the win, the tactic I made worked relatively well, and we really were the better side on the day (with many Latvija shots being well out of position, whilst ours were from good positions).

On another day it could have been 3:1 for the Australia win, but today it was not the case.

It's all good, luck comes and goes and we certainly had plenty of it last season, only just missing out on the 3rd pool for the WC.

On to the next challenge. Have tried to keep the matches relatively close this season to keep it interesting, and really test out players out

As far as other results in the group go, Espana got a walkover victory against Belgie because Belgie didn't have a tactic set, and Honduras won as expected against Ghana (although only by 2-0).

Aus, Latvija and Honduras all rating about the same, so it is likely we will all knock each other out of the running for 1st or 2nd even with the w/o
