Asunto: National Team U21
Our Round 2 match (final 16) is against Norge.
In the first round, Norge beat Nicaragua 2:0 with a rating of 44.6 :O To put this in perspective, our U21 teams best rating this season is 44.3, and this comp is for U20's.
On a very quick scout, here are some of Norges star 20yos
GK:
This is their reserve GK
Jonathan Bakkehaug, age: 20, sum[37]
$
club: Cicignon IF, country: Norge,
value: 2 526 000 AU$, wage: 27 280 AU$,
excellent form, solid tactical discipline,
height: 183 cm, weight: 82.6 kg, BMI: 24.66
unsatisfactory stamina unearthly keeper
good pace hopeless defender
unsatisfactory technique hopeless playmaker
good passing hopeless striker
DEF:
This was their sub that came on (and judging from wage without doing an in depth analysis, most of their defenders are similar, with approx 2x bril, except for Storsveen who is Divine/SD def)
Øyvind Eid, age: 20, sum[58]
$
club: ARSENAL CITY, country: Norge,
value: 767 600 AU$, wage: 9 360 AU$,
solid form, formidable tactical discipline,
height: 177 cm, weight: 70.8 kg, BMI: 22.6
good stamina hopeless keeper
incredible pace magical defender
weak technique adequate playmaker
average passing good striker
ATT:
Judging by wages, I would say an approximate average of 3xformidable, maybe a little higher.
This will certainly be a tough game. I said from the start, if we got to round 2, that is probably PAR, anything more would be a bonus.

Unfortunately our U20 Mini World cup is over.
After watching the game, tactically we were still the better team (ie Aus keeper wage = $5k, Norge keeper wage $27k, Aus striker wage $3.8k, Norge Striker wages up to $5k), but in the end, the skill difference and lack of stamina got us.
Made up for the 8pt rating difference quite well.
We were quite unlucky not to have scored, with a couple of passes just missing the mark, or not being taken at all, and the first goal against us was on the back of a number of errors in a row from our players.
The 2nd goal against us was just due to a pure lack of skill/stamina combination.
Next week we are back on the U21 scene vs Island, so it will be nice to welcome back some old faces

So next up, we have a number of friendlies, followed by the U21 Asian World Cup.
The draw for the U21 Asian World Cup Group Phase is as follows:
Of the 20 teams, ranked by ranking points we have got these in our group
GROUP E
Israel - Rank 4 - Rating 49.8
Australia - Rank 8 - Rating 44.3
Malaysia - Rank 15 - Rating 45.9
Daehan Minguk - Rank 16 - Rating 41.2
So despite there being a decent gap in rankings, the actual teams are fairly close in ratings.
Israel are going to be very difficult to knock off the top of the table, Malaysia actually out-rate us, and I wouldn't be surprised if Darhan Minguk actually rates more (I only checked one of their matches with a 21yo in it).
We will definitely be aiming for top 2 still, despite being the 2rd in rankings.
We had a good display against much tougher teams in the Mini World Cup, so hopefully we can take that form in the Asian World Cup

Can't work out how Malaysia's snr NT is top 50 with 3 managed teams for the entire country.....they all must be v well established.
A nice win tonight against Island. They put out a stronger team than I had expected, but our tactic did the work.
Was nice to have our star GK back and basically an agbell midfield lineup.
We are still struggling with defenders form, with 4 of our top 5 in hopeless/tragic form, and most of our top 15 below good.
Will have to see who is free next week as we don't have anything lined up

Not sure if there has been behind the scenes tinkering with the engine but I'm not even sure how that result is possible.
We have more shots, spend 60% of the time in their half of the field, and lose 4:1

From just the 7 shots too. Wish I could manage that level of economy with my team. The overall ratings, when matching def' v shooting is hardly a 4:1 or 1:4 ratio.
Maybe their GK being x3 the wage of our's would suggest a sizeable skill gap between the stoppers? Both div' form.

Knowing our gks skill I had to go double check.
Out gk is actually 3x the wage and over 3x the value of theirs.

ha ha yeah....I was looking at value v wage!! So that raises the question....WTF went wrong?
This made the whole difference:
Bradley Oster, age: 19
club: Sertãozinho F.C., country: Cymru,
value: 2 591 000 lei, wage: 19 700 lei,
superdivine [17] form, outstanding [12] tactical discipline,
height: 175 cm, weight: 66.8 kg, BMI: 21.81
bookings:
adequate [6] stamina tragic [0] keeper
formidable [11] pace average [5] defender
brilliant [14] technique weak [4] playmaker
solid [8] passing brilliant [14] striker
A good striker can win games by himself at u21...Same situation with Atkinson at NZ u21 last season...he scored over 50 goals in 4 seasons with a half decent team at most behind him

You'd think that, but that striker against our keeper is still not favourable for the striker.
We have a Senior NT level keeper in our U21s, so keeping that in mind, that striker would fail miserably at Senior NT level.
Then although our strikers aren't as good, they also have a fairly poor keeper too, so the matchups are pretty similar.

Their keeper is most likely excellent/formidable with very high pace (look at the team training him, they have 22 players and when last sold only had VG keeper).
This means our strikers (depending on who you look at) are equal to, or higher level striker than their keeper is keeper.
With that wage, the absolute best keeper level he could have (knowing he had VG pace 10 months ago) is Incredible, but again, looking at that trainer, it would be very unlikely.
Compared to their known Brilliant Striker against a Divine Keeper. And everyone is in good form.
It was a case of the ME once again causing some BS result, or, there's always the potential something is going on behind the scenes, and some changes have been made, which suit/disadvantage different tactics (due to changes we do not know about yet).

A brilliant striker can score goals against a divine keeper. Even an outstanding striker can score goals against 17 GK. Against Luxemburg, I used a 22 years old with 12 striking and he scored twice against a divine keeper.
Depends how many chances he has and the position.
At u21, a good striker can make a big difference, can compensate the lack of good defenders and midfielders. Look at New Zealand u21 last season, average team but world class striker and almost qualified from a group with Poland and Uruguay. Drew twice against them.

I agree with what you are saying, but when you look at the post match, then you are just looking at those skills I pointed out earlier.
Comparatively, the striker is still poor against our keeper, compared to our strikers VS their keeper.
Pregame you can talk all about that a great striker will create a lot of chances etc, but now we can see just how many they created, and it was Less than what we were able too, as our tactic dominated them (just look at play in the half. We lost the first half 2:1 despite having 2/3rd of play in their half. The second half wasn't as one sided but was still a fair bit in our favour).
Anyway hopefully the ME makes up for it with a BS result in our favour some time soon
