Asunto: National Team U21
So our U21 team would be reasonably competitive if it were a club team in A League looking at ratings. Can't believe Renaud has turned 22. Where have the seasons gone :O.
Nice job as always and tough luck on drawing France as a 3rd pot team for the WC given they rank #7.

How did our team last season stack up against all the other seasons I have coached? Lets find out.
Keepers
Ponting and Plesa - ranked 7 and 9 out of 12. Not great, but they did the job. We have had some beasts in the past.
Defenders.
Houston - 4/60
Wilkin - 9/60
Brain - 15/60
Love - 23/60
Very solid defensive line. I expect all 4 will be either certainties or on the fringes of playing in the future
Midfielders
Burton - 2/46
Myers - 4/46
Renaud - 6/46
Patterson - 9/46
Leijer (who was a reserve most of the season - 16/46
This is the strongest group of midfielders we have ever had (similar to season 58's Bishop, Fox, Pondeljak). All but Leijer are going to find themselves either in the team or on the fringes in the future if trained well.
ATT
This was actually a surprise to me given Collina and Mitchell have been our go to strikers for 2 seasons
Mitchell 8/34
Collina 10/34
Oliveira 22/34 (also a reserve all season but surrounded by the likes of Morgan, Havery, Zillman)
3 skill points separate Mitchell and Collina from #2 and I think both have skills close to popping, so they likely find themselves realistically a little higher. As season 61 didn't have much in the way of future strikers, both will be closely watched in the future. Their biggest rivals will be Parkinson, Boyd, Greenwood and Cramton for those near their age.

Vampyr got a BOLD because he is basically an Aussie :) and we are happy he is with us
Honoured to be perceived as an Aussie and mentioned as one. I'm also happy to be here with you all, always eager to help :)

Today we played in England (rank 27) in our own Ashes match, and just like the first test, it was back and forth causing all the fans to start losing their hair.
Our strikers had some great chances as did the English strikers.
Munn had a ripper of a game with some massive saves
This was certainly a good game to test our skills against a higher ranked team, and the team did an amazing job

Decent effort against France today. 1-0 loss keeps us in with an outside chance of progressing but let’s be realistic in that this group was always going to be difficult for us.
Unfortunately the ME did not favor us in that match. For what was an even match (they had 4/5 shots - depending if one was a "pass") in the last 3 minutes, the shot count for the first 87minutes was 7-9 and we were down 1-3.
Pretty disappointing because we basically nullified the rating difference which was a huge effort in itself, the ME just didn't want to play ball for us to get any points.

I do still wish Jurro and Hellas the best going through to the knockout stage though. Low 50's is certainly enough talent to get to the end, although some luck will be required (don't waste it all on the group rounds :D )
Pushed Netherland to the end, and probably a fair result in the end, but we did have some amazing scoring opportunities getting in behind their defensive line and not scoring, including having a kick from the spot which we failed to score from.
The start of the game was very one sided and it looked like it was going to be a very long day at the office, but as the match progressed, we looked stronger and stronger, until the final 20 where we were definitely playing the better football.
Anyway it wasn't to be. Time to turn our focus to the Asian Cup. We have a friendly next week and then the Asian Cup

National team excitement! Moldova U21 - Australia U21
A Friendly match will take place today at 12:00, with Moldova U21 facing Australia U21. Australia U21 are currently 34 in the world ranking, while their rivals are in 38 position.
Fans believe we are in for an even duel and a fierce fight to the end.
Well we were up against Moldova, ranked 38, and we absolutely dominated the match, the only problem, we couldn't score at all.
We scored 1 goal in about our first 10 shots, whilst Moldova scored on their 2nd shot, leaving us 1 a piece with 60' gone. Thankfully, we managed to get 3 quick goals back, two of which were low % shots, bringing the scoreline more in line with how the match played out.
We had just under a 4 rating point advantage and ended up 16 shots to 4.
Not a bad match given we were set to play Hong Kong in the Asian cup but they organised another match

Does that mean a forfeit & we get the win in the Asian Cup? :)
U21 ASIAN CUP - 7th EDITION (also Oceania for those two teams)
*Firstly, I just want to remind every coach, this cup isn't just for the coaches, it is for all the managers in the country you coach. Without them, you wouldn't have a national team and we wouldn't have an Asian Cup, so please, post something in the forums, send your users a message or two saying how we are going. Get that interest built up. They may not respond this season, but someone next season may, or someone the season afterwards. You just never know who may stay in sokker, train a future star, watch a future match, and it can all be built on forum communication about the Asian Cup*
Season 7 of the Asian Cup will be run again this season.
Registration is closed -> Final registration by 20.07.23
The Final will be the last match before the age updates.
As always, I will attempt to make the draw a little fun depending on how many teams register.
Regardless of where you think you will finish in your group, please keep all weeks free for the tournament as it leaves open the possibility of having an additional mini competition for those who don't make it out of the group stages.
