Good result considering the match stats. So at the turn we sit in 2nd spot by 1 goal. Really need a result against Slovakia or Greece on the way home or else pick up some big goal difference

Yeah I agree, that was a good result given the stats.

I know what you mean by we need a result against them, even though realistically we have actually done exceptionally well, getting points against both the number 1 and number 2 seeds, punching well above our weight.

Was a shame that in tonight’s match the 90th minute the winger dribbled it over the goal line before getting one last cross in. Could have been interesting with a last minute winner

Tonight we took on Bulgaria in a friendly match.

Bulgaria are ranked 7th whilst we are ranked 33rd and we managed to get a nice 0:0 draw. We even managed to make up for an early injury to one of our starting mids.

Next week we take on Slovensko again.
We have the tightest group of all the world cup qualification groups, meaning we have far exceeded expectations and Hellas have been below pay, with Slovensko going a bit each way.

Will be hard to keep up our good run, but will certainly keep pushing.

Well that's a bit frustrating.

We are going to miss out on the World Cup Group phase despite only losing once against the top 2 teams.

This was our 2nd draw against the number 1 team in the group.

It feels a lot like last time where we actually outplayed the team that came 2nd both times, but the ME was on their side so they got the points, and then they ended up making the final of the u21 world cup (and we outplayed them both times in the qualification stage).

Frustrating but definitely getting the team to perform above what it should be

It's pretty amazing what you guys did here, being a small community and managing to create a team that can fight for the WC.

The Skandinavien countries and Skotland usually 15-30 users and qualifying 3/4 .... but yes you Guys do well too

Had to make up a 12 goals GD against the 4th seeded team (we are 3rd seed) for a chance to overtake the 1st seed team, which we have drawn twice too, to make the group stage.

Did the best I could and managed to put 8 goals behind then, giving us a +6 of those GD we needed.

Unfortunately that leaves us relying on slovensko to put 6 past Hellas, which I just can't see happening.

It's a shame as I really feel we deserved to be in the group stage yet again given we only lost once the entire campaign, and won every game against the lower seeds

Slovenia and Greece conceded only 4 goals each for the tournament and 7 of them were to us. That's hard to beat. A good effort and a bit unlucky in the end, having held a lead against Greece until the 82nd min. So close.

With the age update today, comes the end to many players international careers, but for others, just the start to bigger and better things.

I would like to thank the trainers and youth schools of the following players for being a huge part in the success of the Aus U21 team this season.

We very much deserved once again to go through to the world cup group stage, only losing a single time to the top 2 teams, and not dropping a point to those seeded below us.

I admire your commitment to preparing these kinds of stats. It's always good to see the fruits of your training.

One thing I haven't really plotted when selecting trainees is the cycle of WCQ and WC Finals. Now looking at how my youngsters align.

Hopefully we start making world cup finals more regularly. We were right on track and then they redid the draw.
Still really should have make it given everything but we were ever so slightly short.

If we can get strong enough to 2nd pot, we will make it more often than not, meaning it would be good either season player wise.

Then again, we have had great success in the Asian Cup in the off-season which is thanks to everyone's work too
