Hopefully we start making world cup finals more regularly. We were right on track and then they redid the draw.
Still really should have make it given everything but we were ever so slightly short.

If we can get strong enough to 2nd pot, we will make it more often than not, meaning it would be good either season player wise.

Then again, we have had great success in the Asian Cup in the off-season which is thanks to everyone's work too

Once again, I am putting my hand up for u21s.

Unfortunately the time I can commit to the game is a lot less. For this reason, i was strongly considering stepping down but when I really look in to it, it still seems to be more than what many NT coaches do.

As always, happy to step down if there is a local manager who wants a go with the team. It would be nice to have a break knowing the team is in good hands, but happy to keep moving forward as the coach as well.

Last game of the 'election season' with a nice 5-1 vicotry over Shqiperia.
We were favourites but there is only 14 ranks between the two teams, so a nice big win given the difference.

This season we will play it by ear a bit. I still want to reward those who train u21 players in the 'off season' as we need these players when we do make it through to the World Cup Group stage (and it sucks if only every second season players matter). The Mini World Cup is once again an u20 affair which makes almost no sense, and the Druid's Cup once again has been organised to make sure the teams that are in the World Cup, aren't disadvantaged in any way during the knockout phase.

I have given up the reigns of the U21 Asian Cup (although noone has picked them up yet), so we will see how Australia can be screwed over there too :D

Hopefully we can preserve our ranking in the off season to try and get a 2nd basket place for World Cup Qualifications, but it is a hard fought spot to maintain, so fingers crossed

Probably just hit a record high for Aus U21 team rank...ranked 29
2024-06-23 08:25:08
Nah, you'll never hit the record high for the country, that's just impossible these days (we've been rank #1 before, not that it lasted long). Probably a record high under your management which is amazing work by yourself and also those training and developing our U21's.
2024-06-23 09:09:27
Yeah, I remember the #1, but since it stabilised haha

Sorry all, life has been hectic and couldn't find an appropriate U21 NT to face last weekend.

On the positive side, due to being diligent about who we play, we have jumped to Rank 27

The slow, slow climb up the rankings. Ranked 26 now

Hopefully us competing in the Asian cup doesn't hurt us too bad

Unfortunately this season, I haven't been able to put the work in I would have liked.

Today we took on South Korea, with fairly even stats but us ahead and with the ball in their half a lot more.

Unfortunately they scored in extra time to win 1:2

Out rating points will take a bit of a battering so will need to see what I can arrange the following week. Unless all results go against us, it still should only drop us a couple of places but no knock us out of the top 32.

Sometimes such matches happens, nothing to worry about that much :)

It's better that such result happened in this season, rather than in WCQ, where it may knock Aussies from main tournament:)

Got the win today but could put away the goals we deserved.

Due to this, I'm not sure what our ranking points will do, it could even go down which us frustrating given we had 19 shots for 1 goal.

Fingers crossed those around us in ranking don't all end up with big wins

So we lost 4.5 ranking points but we are still in the top 32.

With 70 points between us and 33rd, we will likely have a break this week to make sure we retain our 2nd basket spot.

I will check when exactly the game releases the draw and organise/not organise a game as appropriate

So I know communication hasn't been up to my usual standards, which I apologise for, but hopefully you enjoyed watching us hold on to our 2nd pot this season.

It got a little tight at the end there, but we did it, and it has put us in a good position for the next world cup cycle.

But First, I would like to thank everyone who trained players, and also the players which made this season successful.

Interestingly, this was the worst we have done in an Asian cup since I took over, but we were also beaten by the team that won it. At the same time, it's the first time we have qualified in the second basket, we got as high as rank 26 I believe.

So for the outgoing team that played the biggest role, hopefully I don't forget anyone (I'm going off the top of my head).

GK - these two players shared the box with neither having great stamina and form being all over the place
Talon Bracken
Lowan Silvagni

DEF
Jirra Haines - a beast, what more can I say
Ace Franklin - great player to share the centre with
Samuel Anderson
Sebastian Yang
Rob Zdrilic - will be moving out of the defenders in to the striker for the future I think (or was it the other way around?)
Jacob Magon

MID
Alex van Gisbergen - plagued by form issues, deserved a lot more time over the past 2 seasons
Goran Chen - has been a mainstay for 2 seasons, sad to see go
Brett Shaw
Paul Steele

ATT
Dale Rose - boy did he score some goals this season
Royce Griffith - probably should have played more, but form

There were also some 20yos who played a big role, but they can get their celebration at the end of this coming season when they qualify us for the world cup finals

Now this is pretty raw data, but take a look where your player is, and the points next to them.

Generally if players are within 3 points of someone else, their skills are pretty close.
I don't use the points to select players who play, but generally those with higher points will be the better players....in general

GK's I don't bother with the points, this is just the group of GK I am following at present
