Asunto: National Team U21

Have to say, after all the seasons I have managed NT sides I have always felt that tactic variety is essential especially if your players are weaker than the opposition. The worse results have been DIRECTLY as a result of NOT changing tactic. Teams who have beaten us have not been significantly stronger than us but we have looked terrible and have created little in the form of offensive options.

I beat plenty of teams in U21 giving a 5 point rating start.

Oh well. There is always next season.

You forgot about one more thing: currently there are no MIDs in Australia U21. Their passing level is pathetic, moreover they have no defense. If we look at our competition, their MIDs are way better. As a result, I can't experiment with tactics. The squad, I had last season, was two times better.

However, there is hope when current 20y turn into 21y :) The gap between our opponents and Australia should disappear.

At U21 level you'd be dreaming if you expected mids to have defense with our number of users. That's really like a once in a blue moon scenario and I think you'd be pushing to find players in the past who had defense and midfielder skills, it's really one or the other.

Our average marks are better than they have been in the past, so we really can't be as bad as what we use to have. I'd think we'd be about par. If their are no U21 mids in Australia you should be looking for them, they'll be around somewhere.

Well .like you said cometer your number of users is pretty low and the chance to bring good mids from junior school is lower...but this not mean you do not have mids..with the right train they can become good enough to play at NT

Thanks for electing me as U21 manager. I hope to repay that and bring back the U21's to where they belong. 48th is a terrible position to be in, that's 1 spot above 4th pot for WCQ's. Gives us some work to do to rectify that.

43 pages for this thread won't do at all. Hope to see it around 50-60 by the end of this season ;).

First things first. I have arranged a fixture against Latvija U21 this week. They're approximately 100 points above us on the rankings, so gives us as good an opportunity as we're likely to get to kickstart the season with a win.

It may have been said before but please, if you have U21 players (or senior for that matter as it will help borkos) please update them in the NTDB database or send me a skmail with their skills. I'll be sending out skmails tomorrow for those that haven't been updated in a while.

I hope this team will thrive and get back to the glory days, maybe not back to #1 (I think that would be a little ambitious, and yes we have been #1 with our U21's for a brief period of time :p).

It's probably safer in either the U21 forum and revive that, or alternatively using the Australian Association forum to combine with seniors. I'm happy with either. I'll discuss with borkos as to what direction would be best for the benefit of both teams.

The Association forum is fine for both NTs in my opinion. :)

Has been a bit of a rushed week with everything happening but I've got a tactic and lineup set for the match against Latvija. Ranking wise they're a fair way ahead so this presents an opportunity to kickstart our season and gain some much needed ranking points. I believe there's a lot of improvement still in our U21 side and I'll continue to work through that as the next few weeks unfold. I'd like to if possible get our avg marks to around 53-55 but again that depends on what we've got available.
