Asunto: National Team U21
You know there is a rumour that NT players are superhuman and heal faster and also atract more fans :-) But in reality they only gain experience faster (for what it's worth..)
As you said the extra training doesn't justify the injury risk, but for me having NT players is more of a prestige. Also the higher transfer prices are obvious..

Yeah I think Pavoniana said it pretty well.
It's worth capping players or keeping them in the squad purely for the sake of big/experienced clubs buying them and training them up.
As borkos said though, cometer's still in charge and it's probably jsut not practical for him to sort it out. It's not exactly a good situation, but that's why he's stepping down. I do admire the enthusiasm though!

Yeah, it's been well below par the last 2 seasons for my own standards, probably not helped by the real lack of options in the squad and a declining user base.
The issue I have with an U21 game now is 2 things. One it doesn't add a great deal for a single week and 2 I'd need to go through the entire db to find U20 players who are now U21 that aren't 20-50k players. We've simply got very little depth and ideas of playing U19's, U20's against opposition is just simply out of the question (unless someone finds a miracle cure for a lack of options). I'll try and arrange one for late to give the most time to search for U20s but it's not like we've got talent running out of our ears like we did have when our U21 side qualified for consecutive U21 world cups. I expect our senior side to go the same way in the near future as well. We just can't expect to maintain our strength when we keep losing experienced users and struggle to recruit anyone else.
In saying that those of us that are left can still try to keep the NT competitive against most sides but it does require effort to do so.

Given the cattle you had...I think it was a job well done (punched above your weight). Looks like another tough season coming up with the players available but there have been some decent 17-18yo pulls recently (they'll have aged with tne new season). It's crucial these players are trained...wherever they may end up.
Also, teams becoming inactive & the risk of losing young players? Unless I have it wrong, any youngster with these teams will have been lost...unless they've managed to offload before becoming inactive....there's been a couple of teams recently to go this way, & my impression is we didn't get to keep the young talent....or have I got this wrong. Might not seem important to those outside Oz, but given the lack of numbers, it's pretty crucial.

players in national squad (NT or under), can NOT be fired! ;)
As an U21 coach of small sokker country myself I can tell you that the single most important job for U21 coach (or his staff if he has any) is to try to find suitable, experienced and reliable managers for all the talented youngsters. All the other things you do as U21 coach are really irrelevant, because as long as you don't have players trained by quality managers, you are not going anywhere..
So the coaching job for small U21 country is really more about arranging transfers than setting tactics :-)

I'm talking about players who are 16-19yo (even 20yo) who aren't in the squad but would be once they've developed. There's plenty of under 19yo's who aren't in the squad, but will be in a season or two.
There have been teams go inactive that have had decent 17-18yo's in the NTDB but whilst not in the U21 squad, were on track to be in coming seasons.
What happens to these players? This may not matter that much to larger nations given their pool, but for countries like Oz, it can make a difference.

I'm a little disappointed that you did not agree Australia U21 friendly match.

Yeah that's all well and good but that's often a difficult task. For one, if they're not being trained it's usually in the hands of someone who's inactive or does not care about anything outside of their enjoyment (which is their right). You can't force sell, the best you can do is to talk to them regarding options.
If you try and stamp authority over something you have no authority about you won't last long as a manager and you end up losing all respect.
It's a balancing act.
At the end of the day you need to realise others are people first, and not inputs into a process. The NT is a community team not a managers personal glory.
It's not the managers responsibility to facilitate transfers, they don't have any authority there. Sure, if a community is willing to work that way it's fine but you can't force that don't to magically follow suit. Best a manager can do is to highlight the various pros and cons and then leave it to the user to decide.

lol I'm not forcing anybody to sell of course, that would be ridiculous, but I'm usually forcing my Czech friends to buy :-)
The SA users want to sell their players to good trainers themselves and help the NT team this way, so it's a cooperation process of course for the glory of their country..
Nobody is stamping an authority, on the contrary I think it is the U21 job to do that and help the community in any way possible..if it means finding trainers for talented players, than that's that..it is not just about setting tactics and writing pregame reviews..especially in smaller sokker countries..just my opinion..
I don't mean to brag, but we have 5 active users and 4 junior schools (don't get fooled by the official number, those are 1 time log-ins) and we are ranked 61. in the World and still manage to beat much bigger contries..without cooperation regarding selling juniors and finding good trainers for them, we would never achieve that..Just something to think about..

True. maťka for example is one of the managers who helped me to find a trainer for our talented GK. Now he will be our future n.1, otherwise he could be wasted with some manager, who wouldn't train him, as it was the case many times before..with so few junior schools it is crucial to train well as many players as possible..
I have many many many friends who can help with the training of Australian players. even I do too.
