May as well make something of the elections, so here's my campaign speech ;).

In sections, so if you don't want to read a particular section just skip past it :).

The Current Season

We missed out on qualifying by 1 point again. Otherwise we had a pretty good season, losing only 3 games during the qualifying campaign.

We were able to keep Belgium quiet for 60min in the first match, and managed to defeat Austria in the first leg.

Finally, we improved our position on the rankings and are now 26th with over 2100 ranking points.

Sokker Achievements

I've been playing 12 seasons of Sokker now and have now controlled the national team for the past 7 seasons. (I think anyway, it's been a while)

My achievements in Sokker in the period have been:

2 time A League champion
1 time Australia Cup Winner
1 time Australia Cup Runner-up
1 time Australia Cup Semi-Finalist
1 time Qualifier for World Cup (Australia)
1 time Mini World Cup Runner-up (Australia)

For those that weren’t around last season I’ll add the same thing as last season’s election although many of you now know how I operate.

Reasons why you might want to vote for me:

- I'm a dedicated user and spend quite a large amount of time on Sokker and would find time to dedicate to managing an NT side.

- I'm a decent tactician, definitely not the world's best but still improve with every match and guarantee I have serious thinking before every match about the best approach to the game.

- Easy to talk to person who enjoys new challenges and is always prepared to listen to pretty much everything including criticism.

Possible reasons why you might not want to vote for me:

- I’m an Australian user which would mean I would be competing against some of you in the league and I would most likely have to know the NT player skills if I am elected. I consider myself honest enough that I wouldn’t abuse this privilege in any form.

- I've been here many seasons in a row and you might be getting a little tired with the same manager again as well as potentially other managers waking up to how I play tactically, although I'm trying to get a little more unpredictability in tactics.

Goals for the new season if re-elected

1) Win the Mini World Cup to regain some pride from last season.

2) Improve ranking points so that we maintain our 2nd seed spot for next season.

3) Continue to set good standards for managing the NT via communication to and from users, considering their ideas in relation to the upcoming match or where they want the NT to head towards as well as trying to keep the forums active. Always been something I've tried to achieve as I strongly believe the only way for a successful NT is to start from the bottom up. Keeping users active increases the chance of them staying, getting interested in the NT and therefore increases the player pool quality.

4) Help out the new U21 manager to get them settled in and hopefully play a role in getting them qualified to the first ever official U21 world cup.

I'm open to questions if people have them. I'm also up for feedback on things I did well, things you'd like to see improved as well if people wish to express opinions so long as they're constructive in some way ;).

Look forward to running for another season.

I am better, but good luck :P
2009-01-06 12:29:26
as well as trying to keep the forums active

That is a nice way to describe your spamming! :P

You've got my vote anyway.

crap... I voted before the speech!
2009-01-06 13:05:22
must say I did a similar thing ;).

Here's a question for you...

How will having a dedicated U21 NT affect the running of the senior team?
- Do you think it will change the objectives of the NT?
- As far as the NT is concerned, will having a dedicated U21 team be a positive thing for Australia?
2009-01-07 13:04:28
- Do you think it will change the objectives of the NT?

Could well do, although the main objectives would always be the same (Qualify, activity, ranking point gains). Some of the other objectives that might change or adjust would be the different format of games. Obviously with U21, we're likely going to play less of them in the 1st's so that might open up other types I haven't done as many of.

Another objective would always be to assist the U21 manager settle in, get use to working as a team rather than as an individual.

Other that that I'd think most of the other objectives are fairly adjustable under the new system.

- As far as the NT is concerned, will having a dedicated U21 team be a positive thing for Australia?

The positives include:
1) manager experience, I can pass my knowledge on to others in that role and actually they can see tactically rather than trying to learn on the fly.
2) extra incentives to train U21 players as they now get more games
3) co-operation between the two groups could result in better quality games

The negatives include:
1) election spam - more from foreigners as there's more than 1 team to go for.
2) potential increase in U21 prices, bad for new managers wanting cheap youngsters.

So yes I think there's more positives in having the U21 team then not.

What sort of different fixtures do you think will fill the void, considering we usually negotiate some games where we are playing our #1 squad against junior teams from the more established nations?
2009-01-07 13:31:25
That's one of the likely issues we're going to face. Could be a bit tricky in us sending out U21's against say Hong Kong 1st's. So we may see less of that, unless we go up a bit and make it U22's against their 1sts etc.

What I was saying is that you might see more 2nd XI games then before, more 2nd div and below type games, U23 games perhaps, just different types that might interest other users rather than have a fairly static 1st XI, 1st XI, 1st XI all the time.

So instead of the usual 90% 1st XI games 8% U21, 2% competition+2nd XI it might be a slightly different reshuffle.

I'd like to see a list of the top * in Australia:
- 3 GKs
- 8 DEFs
- 10 MIDs
- 6 ATTs

Just to see who they play for and to give them some recognition.
I know you're against publicising player rankings, but is there some way you'd like to do it?

This would be particularly useful for young players (for instance an U19 list), to put them on the NT radar. Maybe something you can sort out with Tigermaster... I mean... whoever earns the U21 coaching role.
2009-01-09 12:32:44
Quite possibly yes, it's not that I'm against publicising player rankings as such it was always more to do with trying to keep skills away from opposition scouts. Then it was always the time factor hence why the age rankings idea got left behind a bit.

Got a few things I'll need to talk to the U21 manager about anyway so that can always join the queue ;).

Has everyone remembered to vote?

It seems some people have been responding to JaBoL's election spam SK-mails. Deadline tonight.
2009-01-18 09:52:08
Yeah it's at least 2 from my knowledge, possibly upto 5 or 6. Either way, I'm still ahead if I've got the same number of votes as Tigermaster does.
2009-01-18 10:22:44
ok then.. i'll give you a vote to make the landslide win even bigger ;)
2009-01-18 13:01:25
gotta love that

Either way, I'm still ahead if I've got the same number of votes as Tigermaster does.

Seems a pretty clear cut election for the U21's I must say... =)

Congrats to you and cometer :)

I've lost in Belgie, again. Guess I need to try in another country :(
